I would like your opinions please,
I'm in the market for a new lens, a used 300mm 2.8 is, but they seem to be like rocking horse poo, so do I go for a is or non is version..??
thanks for looking, Jason

The older non-IS version is no longer supported by Canon so if it takes a dump, you may find it very difficult to have it repaired. On the plus side, the non-IS version is quite a bit cheaper and a major failure is not really likely.

Dec 21, 2011 19:46 | #10 I've used both, given the weight of that thing I found I got better results with IS. Advantage of having IS is you can always turn it off, you can't turn it on if it doesn't exist. I saw a nice one in the for sale list earlier today.

I am happy with 300L2.8non IS results. Marc
