I had my camera pointed in the right direction, the only thing that looked like M31 was this photo but... well, i'm using a 70-200mm so maybe that's not enough magnification? I thought I saw someone on here shooting M31 with a 200mm before and turned out pretty good.

M31 magnitude is 4.5 and the Orion Nebula is 5.0 there are stars at 4.4 that I can see so should I be able to see M31 like a star?

This is also from tonight

That could be M31. Hard to tell without a little more detail. Your Orion is getting better! The focus seems much improved.

Here's my rendition of m31, I used a stacking software and a lot of pp. There's around 40 exposures to make this happen. I also used a guided EQ mount.

that's M31. As my uncle calls it "Our fuzzy next door neighbor". How long are each of the exposures you're taking? You'll probably need to be taking 4-7 min exposures. You'll need a dark sky and very good polar alignment or you'll need to be autoguiding. Have you shot Orion through you scope? It's a pretty great target.
