Hey folks,

I am looking for a fast and sharp prime for street and family shooting. I am primarily attracted to its lighter weight compared to my Canon 17-55. For the moment I am holding off on upgrading the body until next year (like the 60D but with better AF like the 7D). I have also looked at all the Canon and Sigma primes between 24 to 35mm, except for > f/2.0. I don't mind paying the premium for 24Lii, but would it be a crime to put it on a 450D? Appreciate your thoughts!

Happy holidays

Lots of good reviews and apparently happy users of the Sigma 30mm...have you considered this model?

Never used that lens, but I own a 85 1.8 and have used the 85l , while these are different focal lengths by far,if I understand your question to be will the quality of the 24 l be overkill it wasted, my op in no. Now the wont get the full use because of crop sensor, but it will give the range of like 38 mm. So look at 35 mm shots and see if you like the framing and you may have a idea. I have a xsi, it's a capable camera, the reason I went full frame was mainly for "width" the sensor brings. Which is just the ability to use my lens to full capability. I say go for it and if you get a full frame body down the road and keep the 450, it'll give the lens 2 kinds of flavors if you switch back and forth. The 24l is a helluva lens based on the samples you shouldn't regret it! Good luck!

Are family shots more important than street? If so, I would strongly suggest a flash if you don't have one already. Used correctly you'll get results and indoor versatility that you can't get with just a fast prime.

Not at all, it's a great combo.

24L on a crop works great.

Thanks for your insights, everyone. I'll pick up the 24L at B&H tomorrow. Cheers
