Hi all,

My first post here, so hello to all.

I'm having thoughts about buying the EF 35mm f/1.4, seems to get great write ups, or anyone use the Samyang 35mm f/1.4? Might anyone have any photo's to show please?

I use a Canon 5D Mk1 body.

All advice appreciated, thanks!

Hi. Welcome to the POTN forums! I don't have experience myself, but you can look at the lens archive forum. Here is the Samyang:
Samyang 35mm F1.4 UMC

And here is the Canon:

Hey welcome to POTN
have you tried websites like flickr to look for the pictures taken by these lenses?

Hi. I don't have any of those lenses but wanted to chime in.

The 35L is a great lens, you can't go wrong. The Samyang 35 is manual focusing. So if you have manual focusing down then it's a great alternative. Apparently the two will yield similar quality results. Although you lose autofocus.

I really do not understand how people can put up without autofocusing. Surely there is no way you can pull off focus at f1.4 and hitting it on the head.

The 35L is absolutely amazing!! I had a couple shoots with it today. LOVED it! It was sharp as all can be. the colors and bokeh were sexy also.

you're comparing apples and oranges with the L and the samyang... just because they're the same focal length, doesn't meant that they belong in the same sentence... :) it's like comparing apples and oranges because they're both fruit... :)

35L is an awesome lens. I haven't used the Samyang, but I would get tired of pressing the back button with nothing ever happening :p

And how is that? How are they different? I guess the is no better apple to app,e than 35 1.4 to 35 1.4. Yes...there is no af, as with the zeiss....but based on what i have seen, results....you will not be able to tell the difference.

^^^^^ this

I own the Samyang 35 and for me its such an amazing lens for its price. The lens is marketed as a lens for videotographers but that's to throw a lot of people off.

You can't go wrong with either lens. I have not used the 35L myself but I'm sure most of the those owners are satisfied with their purchase. Just as I am everything I take a picture with my Samyang 35.

I find it tougher to pull off correct focus at f/1.4 WITH auto focus. If I want it right, I use live view.

I have also have both, and I have another point of view. Regarding zeiss and canon, you can not compare them in every aspect.. Maybe in sharpness and focal lengh, other than that no..

Different colors, different bokeh and rendering

Sure, but this is exactly the points of comparing apples to apples and picking the one that you like more. Who said that they need to be identical to be called apples? One and the other is 35 mm, one and another is 1.4 and what would be another apple that you can find for a valid comparison?
If you cannot call 35 f/1.4 vs 35 f/1.4 an aple to apple, I give up....
