Just got 35L but looking at the above shots of 35L vs the Zeiss I am not seeing the differences the poster is talking about. The tree trunk shot the framing is different but other than that not sure whAt Zeiss is showing that 35L doesnt.

Congrats!
I do not think you will see. The difference...likley it will be the case that in 99% of cases lenses will be the same an in 1% of cases they will give a different output, but it is not like one is better....just different.

Both can do great pictures, for sure....
I think the 35 mm and 1.4 light is a great idea and will offer really a lot of creative possibilities.

as far as i can tell, one little difference i was able to see between the canon and zeiss was that the Zeiss can focus very close than with the canon, unless i did something wrong? my set up was the 5d mkii, and the zeiss 35mm 1.4, and the canon 35mm 1.4 on the same desk focusing on that robot guy. plus i do notice that my zeiss 35mm 1.4 ze has more color sooc, and this i think cant change. for me though, the zeiss "seemed" to turn out nicer images, but in fairness, the canon is older tho. ill dig for more near examples if possible, but either way, i have none of those lenses anymore sadly, so i cant do more near comparisons!
