600d + Grip?

Hi, one of my problems with the 600d is that it's a bit small and the grip is a bit narrow for my large hands. It's also quite a bit front heavy when using my 70-210 tele lens, which happens to be one of my most used/favourite lens.

I'm curious how much exactly adding a battery grip will help with these small problems. Will the grip add much weight to the body to counter the heavy lens, and enhance standard the grip comfort, as well as vertical shooting comfort?

Any input is appreciated.

Just remembered, how useful exactly are the grip models with the built in timer?

Grip is nice to have for it. I have 500D and 70-200 f4 - well balanced.
With 35 F2 and grip removed it is another nice couple as well.

I have a T2i and I always wanted a grip for it but I never got around to buying one. It is definitely small for my hands but it has never been a problem. I recently upgraded to a 7d and the larger sturdier body has been fantastic especially with my 24-70L (the brick). I'm sure adding a grip will provide more balance and handle.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Just bought this one on amazon:

Good reviews and decent price. Even if it goes wrong it's not a massive loss for £30, but from what i've read it's as good as a genuine product. Hope so. Definitely much cheaper than upgrading to a 7D :D

Yeah, you normally don't need to buy a genuine grip. Most 3rd party sell comparable ones. I mean that grip your after has really good reviews, although I don't know about that battery. However, I'm sure someone would have chimed in on that within the reviews. Good luck with your purchase and now you'll have a more "PRO" looking body.

Absolutely. I have a few genuine batteries to use with it anyway, but i'll give the 'el cheapos' a little go just to see how they fare, and if they're any good, i'll keep them with me for emergencies. The grip itself looks well built, and that's what i'm after most importantly.

I'll be sure to tell my non tog friends the grip is worth as much as the camera body

Glad I could help.

A quick review/update.

The grip+two batteries+remote was delivered by TCT of Amazon by the 28th December. Really impressive if you consider it was over the Christmas period.

All products work brilliantly. Incredible for what I paid.

The grip fits perfectly, is made of quality plastic and feels sturdy. It's easy to use and install even for a first time user. It drastically improves the size and weight of the smallish 600d, which was my main objective. I needed more weight to balance the body when used with my 70-210, which will be especially important for panning shots at this years airshows. At an estimate, I would say I am now 50% happier with this camera body than I was. Certainly takes the sting out of not being able to afford a 60d or 7d. It's unbelievable how much more comfortable it is to hold my camera now, the added space for my hand makes all the difference. It also has the expected scroll wheel/shutter/aperture/zoom buttons, for portrait mode, all of which feel adequate.

The batteries are very similar weight and dimension to the original Canon product. No problems fitting them. I charged both fully on arrival before installing the grip. They've been used for roughly two hours now in total, and as expected the battery bar has not moved yet. Only time will tell how the batteries truly are, but so far so good.

The remote is deifinitely cheap, but should last as long as it's not abused. It does what it needs to do, and also has a lock mode, for bulb exposures.

For anyone wondering, this was the meike grip. I'm very impressed and would not hesitate in recommending this grip/bundle to other t2i/t3i users.

Got a 'generic' grip back when I first ordered my XTi/400D and pretty much found it to be a necessity even though I don't have huge mitts. It really does improve the handling of the smaller body Canons, especially the earlier ones which didn't have a great grip design. It's held up as well as the camera body (no problems at all) and they've been beaten around a bit. Recently added a 60D body and plan to get a 'third party' grip for it, too.

I bought the Canon grip for my T2i. I like it because it does give the camera a better balance and something more to hold on to. I have double the battery life with the grip and can even use AAs from a gas station somewhere in a dire emergency (have to carry the AA battery clip with me, though).
