I thought I was pretty satisifed with all the bags I have now until I recently I took a long term assignment to away from home. Basically, I am looking for these features:
1. can carry a simple camera kit (1 body, 2 lens, 1 flash),
2. also carry some random daily stuff like a few piece of clothing, water, snack.
3. if necessary, I can put a laptop in, so I can take all these fragile item on planes.
4. quick access is nice, but not necessary

Camera & random stuff are priority. laptop is temporary. After all, I won't be carrying laptop when hiking or doing outdoor stuff.

My closest thing to these today is Lowepro Primus. After some uses, I found a few limitation and dislike. It takes care of 1 & 2 above, but no easy to take in a laptop safely. And Lowepro in general is overly bulky. I want something that is higher quality and more efficient.

So far, F-Stop Loka or Kenti seem to be exactly what I want. Kenti may fit me better because I am only 5'6". But I am not sure if kenti can fit a 14" Dell Latitude (my biggest laptop today). The side access of kenti is definitely a plus. Loka seems to be safer choice, but I am afraid it will be too big. Anyone know where I can see one in person in SF Bay Area?

Beside F-Stop line, anyone has other suggestion? I am home for Christmas and NY, so I am hoping to get such a bag before I return to Shanghai.

I'll jump in and recommend another f-stop bag, the guru. I'm not that much taller than you, and it fits me just fine, so hopefully that would translate to a good fit on you as well. The guru might not be able to fit a 14" laptop in its "laptop pouch", but if I can fit my 16.4" vaio in the bag, you should have no issues putting your 14" laptop in a protective sleeve, and then putting that into the main compartment. For a body, 2 lenses and 1 flash, I'd think a small pro ICU would do the trick, which leaves plenty of space up top for other stuff.

For pictures and general impressions, see my review in my sig :)

Uh oh...If you have such a tight time frame you may have limited choices. Someone from F-stop regularly posts here. Hope he steps up with a solution for you.

I get into trouble carrying gear as my list of gear expands. For instance, adding a grip on a large dslr. Or buying an iPad and wanting to carry it, just occasionally. ;)

Vaguely remember a LowePro Orion that featured a backpack belt pack combination...room for camera gear, and other odds-and-sodds. But maybe not a notebook?

Have you considered something like a Think Tank Urban Disguise 35 for camera gear and notebook carry-on? And a Backpack for the rest? Just thinking...

My Lowepro Vertex 200 sounds as though it would fit your brief very well except for the water/snack and clothing. Maybe a belt pack or two would cover that side of things?
