Nice shots.

How did you get in with your camera? It has been a few years since I have been to the RBC Center, but the last time I went.......the building had a policy of no DSLR's.

Shots #2 and 6 are outstanding, not much going on with the other shots. #s 4 and 5 include the puck which is nice, but neither that I would consider "interesting".

Colors and exposure look great, you nailed the focus on the shots.

One thing that I would suggest considering is trying to capture some of the expressions and interactions between whistles. Stuff is great to see though, definitely making the most of the opportunity!

I am a credentialed photographer, I don't have rules for my camera, I can bring anything and everything in.

Thats for the reply and I see what you are saying about the uninteresting part so I'll make sure to do a better job of that. Hard to nail focus with the sigma but I'm learning to use it just right.

Figured as much, just checking. I've heard they have loosened the rules up with cameras since I have been there. Are you hired, then? Or do you freelance and sell? PM if you'd like.....sorry to clutter up your thread.

very well done Drew. Exposure looks spot on (nice white ice!) and the action is solid. Keep it up!

Looks like you are really enjoying your NHL shooting. You really have a great eye for the game and you make some great shots. +1 on namasste's critique. I can attest that getting white uni's and white ice is not easy.

With advise from the photo room that I have picked up - now this where we our photos ready for print. There is one company in the room that would like looser crops so that their editors can crop as they like for use. i.e. they may want to use the photo as a 4x4 and also 3x2, so they like extra space around the image.

1, 2, 3 are right on.

crop 4 - from left to right - end of stick blade to elbow. Top of 20's helmet. You get the same story.

crop 5 - The story is the save & reaching cover, not the leg or the cross bar. You can keep schlemko if you like, but I'd crop it tight - from the top left corner to schlemko's knees in a 2x3 crop.

6 is a very good capture. I would have cropped at Ruutu's UU's. But, the background players do make the shot, so I see why you kept so much background.

I would love for you to capture the puck wither just before the goalline or just after the near post.

Keep posting more, and keep enjoying this.

Thank you very much for the reply. I can definitely see what you are saying and maybe should crop a little more from now on cause I see what you mean that some parts don't really add to the shot such as the net in #4.

About the goal shot, this was the shot before and I liked the goalie better in the one I posted because he is more sprawled out in his dive. Let me know what you think about this one...

me personally, I am partial to this one. You have the goalie's eyes. You have ruutu's facial expression. Your caption will then add to this capture, i.i. "Ruutu beating goalie ..." or "Ruutu scoring ..."

This is a great shot - IMO. I am looking for a capture some after this one but before the puck gets deep in the net.

Looked at your Fickr set too, you got the eye. You know the game. Keep up the good work!

Looks like the 60D is 5 or so FPS. That's tough with Hockey being so just crazy fast!

Yea I would really like to move up to the 7D and granted it will be my next body, but so far I have been fairing pretty well with the 60D and want to focus on my glass, then I will be able to move up to the 7D and have the 8 frames per second that it offers.

Thanks for the compliments and the feedback on the shots! I really appreciate it.

Your hockey shots are kind of an inspiration to me and they set a goal for me to strive towards, Drew. I just shot my first hockey game last night from the stands, came on here and saw what you posted, and now I'm viewing the game in a somewhat different light.

I have no idea if my local stadium (an ECHL team) has portholes to shoot from or not though, or who I'd even contact for that opportunity. Do you have any advice for shooting from the stands (or what portholes even look like, so I can try to spy them next time I'm there?).
