Dpreview's overall score was 72%- which works out to be the same score as the S95 strangely enough, even though each camera has strengths and weaknesses in different areas. I'm not sure how you compare 72% of 2011 to 72% of 2010, the newer must be better obviously (and more expensive). Sony A6000, 16-50PZ, 55-210, 35mm 1.8 OSS

"It doesn't matter what camera you have if your photography has nothing worthwhile to say"

First of all let me say that my needs are for a compact "pocket" camera that produces acceptable images, jpg is fine with me. I can carry it with me when I don't want to lug my DSLR's and lenses while still giving me quality images. I doubt I'll do much raw shooting with it, but its nice to have should I feel the need.

Images from that camera were always noisy and lacking in detail, regardless of what ISO setting it was on Blows it away doesn't it? Yeah my SD700 took nice pictures in sunny weather but I was never happy using it for much else. HATED using it at ISO400 or god forbid, ISO800. The noise that the S100 does have is much nicer noise to look at compared to the smudgy smeary looking crap from the small CCD sensor of old P&S cameras. The ELPH 100HS is also a vast improvement as well (I got one for my parent for xmas, played with it before wrapping it up) CMOS all the way, with the exception of the S95 and G12 which are impressive for what they are. Images from that camera were always noisy and lacking in detail, regardless of what ISO setting it was on. I ended up giving it away to my daughter-in-law, and just hadn't paid much attention to this line until I started reading about the S100, and I'm glad I did. You say that you don't intend to shoot in RAW, yet you say you're upgrading from an SD800 because it's too noisy? You're missing out on one of the S100's greatest assets. A pocketable camera that you can stick in your pocket, shoot with high ISO's in RAW, then clean up in post. Jason

One of the only reasons I purchased it is for the ability to shoot RAW. To me - not shooting in RAW is like leaving it in AUTO mode - your just not using it to its potential. Proudly Australian Made!!

Maybe so but two things I'd like to point out: Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here

I doubt it. You can never miss what you don't have... Unless you are foolish enough to go out and get one sometime later. So, don't and you won't.. There will always be a newer better model down the line anyways. configsys wrote in post #13594960 I don't get the "9.6 fps for 8 frames in hi-burst mode",wouldn't that be just 8 fps? ![]() Ah, ha.. The rate of fire on a M16, if I remember right, was rated at 700-900 rounds per minute. However, with only 30 rounds per clip, your effective rate was much less... Just the process of connecting the cable and getting the photos off is more effort than we should be exerting these days (see the iPhone's photo stream). The thought of then having to process them further would only ensure that I unload the photos even less frequently than I do now.
