I'm assuming the screen is like any other Canon and comes with its own built-in/easy to change protector, or did they not go that route with the S100? -=Prints For Sale at PIXELS=-

spear Senior Member 559 posts Joined Dec 2007 More info | I did some playing around with the Macro mode yesterday in dim light hand held using ISO 1600 with lens wide open and I have to say I am impressed. The grain of "noise" is very smooth ... while OK it is not as nice as a 5DII, the fact that this is coming off a tiny P&S sensor is remarkable. Since most of P&S cameras are used indoors in dim lighting, being able to use 1600 without a second thought is a huge advantage. First is the pic resized and then two different 100% crops of areas same picture. Canon 40D, 5DII, 5DIII, G9,G11,S100,G1X, Canon lenses 600mmL f/4 ,24mm-105L f/4, 16-35L II f/2.8, 70-200L II f/2.8, EF 100mm f/2.8, EF 50 f/1.4,17-85 EFS, 10-22 EFS, 580 EX, 2x 580 EXII, 270EX,STE2, 1. 4x Converter, 2.0x Converter. I'm thinking the S100 is a great camera, not just a great camera for a compact P&S. I keep my photos on SmugMug: (http://michaelnel.smugmug.com

Did they even try HDR? The iPhone handily beats this camera at HDR. You literally need a tripod to take HDR photos with the Canon. At this point, we have the software technology to have every photo be HDR without any user intervention. The hardware is also to that point. One of the major advantages of the CMOS sensor is its fast processing speed, which allows stuff such as accurate HDR.

The hardware is also to that point. One of the major advantages of the CMOS sensor is its fast processing speed, which allows stuff such as accurate HDR. The iPhone can do it very well even on its tiny CMOS sensor and relatively small circuit board. It blurs fast moving subjects, but there is no blur or other artifacts due to camera shaking, and the camera doesn't even have IS. You don't even remotely need a tripod. Actually...the A5 is drastically more advanced than any processor ever put into a Canon, even the Digic 5. What I really don't get is that the S100 has that "handheld nightshot" mode where it is clearly stacking the images and marching them up, only blurring fast moving objects, but it can't do the same for HDR? It just seems like lazy programming to me to not allow it to do that with HDR as well. But then again, anyone serious about HDR would never limit themselves to the closed options in a small camera.
