Hi - I just was wondering - are there any people using 24-70 f2.8 with a crop body - what is your experience?

Do you find it wide enough for your purposes?

Do you regret purchasing this beauty?

If so - WHY?

The lens works the same as it would on a FF body, what's to tell?

The crop body, however, will not record/display the entire image. Therefore, it will seem like the lens is longer than 24-70, but it's not. Just cropped.

I use a 24-70 on crop sensor and love it. Its tag-teamed with my 16-35, 70-200, and some primes. Is it "wide enough?" Depends on the conditions. I specifically got the 24-70 for tight indoor use where my 70-200 doesn't have enough room to work comfortably.

If you need something "wider," look into the 17-55.

this is quite mis-leading. On a crop body, this lens has a field of view that is less than on a full frame, but it records the entire image.

I got a good copy. It is sharp, built like a tank, and attracts lots of hot women. Ok, 2 out of 3.....

There are a ton of threads on this, Rent one and decide

I use the 24-70 on a crop.

I originally started with the tamron 17-50 as it was the most recommended lens at the time. I liked it but always seemed to want a little more reach with it. I ended up selling everything (for financial reasons) and got a chance to start from scratch. This time, I decided on the 15-85. I really liked the range but missed the constant 2.8 which made me decide on selling it to fund the 24-70.

There are times where I wish I had a little more wide angle but overall, I really like the focal range. I'm now considering picking up a wide angle or macro to have a new toy to experiment with.

I love mine on my 50d, I have a tokina 11-16 so I have the wide angle covered, now I just need to get something to fill on the gap between 16-24 and Ill be set

EOS 6d, 7dMKII, Tokina 11-16, Tokina 16-28, Sigma 70-200mm F/2.8, Sigma 17-50 F/2.8, Canon 24-70mm F/2.8L, Canon 70-200 F/2.8L, Mixed Speedlites and other stuff.

When it ceases to be fun, it will be time to walk away

I use the 24-70 at times on my 1.3X crop 1D Mark IV. It isn't wide enough, and I go back and forth between it and the 16-35 II which is more of a walkabout zoom on the 1D4. Truth is, neither range is perfect on 1.3X for a walkabout, and I think I might get a 1DX just for this reason.

One main reason I kept my old 5D was because the 24-105L is just such a kick-ass walkabout on the 35mm format. There is nothing available on either 1.3X or 1.6X that can compare.

Ok the crop camera will record the image it is capable of recording, but not the image the lens will provide to a larger sensor. Better?

24mm on the wide end isn't wide enough to suit me. I'm much happier with 17mm at the wide end for a walkaround/general purpose lens on a crop body.

Used it, wasn't impressed. Large, heavy, unbalanced, not particularly good optically wide open, not wide enough. Much happier with my 17-70.

Bought one when I got my 10D in '04 and used it almost exclusively up until a year and a half or so ago when I started adding to the stable. It's still my workhorse, and I'm very happy with it.

My first L lens that replaced 28-135 on 20D. Served me as the single lens for 5 years. Now with Sigma 8-16, 17-40L, 100L and 70-200L MkII in the bag with 7D it's still the most used one.
AF can be quirky at times esp under less than ideal lighting conditions but when it nails the shot it's a pure bliss.
If MK II is announced, I'll jump on it right away even if I have to sell all my other lenses (I'd miss 17-40 though)
