I essentially need a low cost alternative to the Canon LC-5 in order to trigger the shutter via RF. I bought an Adorama knockoff a year ago and it already bit the dust. So I'd like to get something reasonable, but not as pricy as the Canon LC-5

But then this....I have three Canon Speedlights that I currently trigger with an ST-E2. I could see myself using these speedlights in even more situations if I had an RF trigger along with the ST-E2.

So I was thinking something like the Cactus V5 or Phottix stuff might be the answer to my remote shutter release needs.

What systems are best? Any suggestions for a decent shutter remote that I can also use for a nice RF flash trigger? What are the best systems, and why?

I don't see myself buying into E-TTL capable remotes at the moment, but I guess I'm not totally sure on that either. Can the expensive E-TTL systems also do shutter release?

Have you looked at the YN RF-603? They are def. low cost. I have a set. They are 99% reliable. I have had misfires. Not many. They are transceivers. One in your hand can be used to trip the shutter release while the one on your hot shoe will trigger all your flashes. The main thing I hate about then is that there is no way to lock down the one on your camera hot shoe. I think this is what you are asking about??

Take a look at this cord:

I have used it successfully with Elinchrom Skyports and Paul C. Buff Cybersync units.
