I have a t2i and I shoot portraits both natural light and I love my AB 800 with beauty dish
I use the 60 2.8 and love it but I want to add to my equipment. I have rented the 24-105 and really liked the lens. My question is do I get the 24-105 or maybe a sigma 30 1.4 and a cannon 85 1.8 ? In terms of IQ what would be better ? I know the flexability of a zoom is nice but the 1.4/1.8 is nice as well

If you want the flexability of a zoom I would wait for the rumored Canon 24-70L MKII lens. Otherwise the 24-105 is a very good choice (IMO better than sigma 30 1.4).

I would stick with prime lens like 50 1.4 and 80 1.8 or 30 1.4. There is a lot you can do with these lens in low light and NOT much with F4. I dont think zoom can be any sharper then prime lens.

My two favorite portrait lenses on crop are the 50/1.4 and 85/1.8. I would not choose an f4 lens unless strictly doing studio work where I could always control the background. I have 24-70/2.8 and will use it at times, but prefer to use the primes when I can.

I would say it depends on how you work and how big your space is. For me, I like to work fast with models and not keep them waiting while I move up to them and then back when using primes. I like zooms with portrait work period. You can go from sexy waist & shoulders to right up there in the 3 second little natural giggle with just a twist.

If you are doing strictly studio work I think the 24-105 would be great as long as you have around 10-15 feet in front of the model for full body shots, which I prefer anyway as it seems to be more comfortable for the model. At f/4.0 you'd typically be fine with all that light. I'm on the verge of picking up a Canon 24-70L but if my budget did not allow it, I'd be getting the 24-105L.

keep the 24-105L
you like taking photos in the daylight, so the f4 wont be much of a problem.

Depends if you want the versatility or speed. I'd take the primes, but that's me.

+1

Primes > zoom for portrait imo, except maybe 70-200mkII.

24-70 f2.8? You get a very sharp lens with the flexibility of zoom, and a relatively large aperture (bigger than the 24-105's f4 maximum aperture)
