One of the things that did manage to sneak out: Perkin-Elmer's "Solid Catadioptic" mirror lenses, first designed to withstand the rigors of a space launch, that appeared in miniature consumer form in the 70s.

The lens would be the Vivitar Series 1 600 mm and 800 mm.

What took Fox so long to "break" the story? They put one out in public back in mid-September:

They didn't talk about the film much, which was thinner than Saran wrap and nearly impossible to tear--all the better to pack more into the satellite and not worry about it. That was some of the best technology the US ever produced.
