I have a PS CS4, bought on a CD from Adobe. MY question is: I installed it once into PC desktop, and can I install it again in my daughter's laptop, or must I be able to show/prove it's my laptop?
I have just bought CS5 on a CD, and am about to install it, and uninstall CS4, but it seems such a waste to not let her use the CS4.
Thanks

You can have two installs at the same time. For one user. For one operating system platform.

So, can you do it, sure.

Is it compliant with the license agreement, no.

If she's a student, she can get it cheap anyway.

If you upgraded to CS-5 then you must remove CS-4 from all of the machines it is on. That being said, you can install CS-5 on two of your machines. Those two installs are intended to not be used simultaneously. But in reality, who is going to know? Well, I guess you will. And your daughter. So the real question is not can you do it, but rather, are you an honest man, or a thief? And, by extension, what are you teaching your daughter to be? Only you can truly answer that.

I wouldn't know why?
I upgraded from PSCS2 to PSCS4 and still have both on my MacPro…

To the OP: If you bought a full PSCS5, you can do with PSCS4 whatever you want.
If you bought a PSCS5 upgrade, it's using the same license as PSCS4, so you cannot legally sell it or install it on your daughters laptop.

If your daughter is a minor and you live in the US then technically it's your laptop (legal responsibility for its use falls on the parent) and you retain the rights as they apply to you. If in doubt call Adobe and they can better determine what rights you have which they might not even care if you live under the same roof.

This of course is not legal advice.;)

Well, in some cases, the network knows. I've not seen it happen with Adobe products, since I only have one copy operating at any given time, but with MS, I've seen Word refuse to run on one machine because the app is open on another PC on the network.

It used to happen with PS4 - PS6 (IIRC), but nowadays you need to "activate" PS on a machine (caution: You only get 20 de-activations!) and these activations are limited to 2 machines.

However, I have seen no issues starting PSCS2 and PSCS4 (upgrade) simultaneously by accident on the same MacPro.

Without having the benefit of reading the Abode License Agreement (where the real and complete answer would be), generally you have a "license" for one machine at a time. Some license agreements will allow a user to place the software on 2 machines owned by the user (i.e. 1 desktop and 1 laptop used for travelling). That said, if you purchased CS5 and you are removing CS4 from your machine, you have essentilly freed up the "use" license for the CS4 and there should be no prohibition from placing it on your daughter's laptop. The same would be true if you purchased a new computer and need to install the software on your new computer.

And as to whether you can have multiple versions of a software on one machine (i.e CS4 and CS5), again there is no prohibition from having such multiple versions on one computer, so long as it meets the other "use" requirements under the License Agreement.
