I purchased about $100 worth of AA rechargeable batteries, Energizers. I love them to death they're not Eneloops or anything like that but they work well in my flash units. I have two 540ez's and two 420ez's so I want to have enough juice to go around for all of my flash units, then I realized I have no where safe to put them in my camera bag.

How are we all carrying flash batteries while out and about shooting? Especially you wedding guys.

I use those plastic AA battery holders (external link). I used to use little zip lock baggies.

On waist belt, in Glad zip-lock sandwich bags (which are marked for each Speedlight) within a LOWEPRO Sliplock POUCH 60AW along with 3-Speedlight 580EXII during weddings or events, for run and gun shots. Else if lighting needs aren’t as demanding then in a LOWEPRO Sliplock POUCH 10AW, on waist belt or pouch in locked up outer side pocket of either Lowepro ProRoller X200 or Magnum camera cases.

Always along with empty zip-locks sandwich bags marked “used rechargeable batteries“ so can quickly remove and keep NEW/FRESH from OLD/USED rechargeable batteries - often useful demarcation during long, say 8-10 hour events.

I just toss the used ones in the camera bag and fish 'em out later. They're already labeled as sets of four.

Good, whatever works best for you.
I just found the plastics containers too rigid and less form fitting/less flexible.
(but also find it helpful having them premarked in sets. I usually have three spare sets of 4 for each of 3-4 speedlights and spare sets of 2 for associated pocket wizards TT5's)

I just find it time-wasteful to keep dead batteries organized during a shoot. Tossing them in the bag is faster. Unless I'm misunderstanding your use of the plastic ziplock. I could see using one big baggy for them all as helpful. I might try that.

The plastic containers are definitely rigid as heck.

Tupperware makes sense here. I use the ones that Mike recommended in my range bag though. Picked them up for 2 bucks a piece.

Dear CDIFOTO, I agree, no need to keep dead batteries organized during a shoot – absolutely only one zip-lock bag for OLD/USED batteries within the Lowepro POUCH.

NEW/FRESH batteries are organized in pre-marked zip locks bags before going in the Lowepro POUCH. So as an event progresses or if a lot of dynamics, I can periodically very quickly monitor or check my remaining bag quantity of speedlight batteries to pace my speedlight power usage.

Plastic cases are orderly and are good if one has the luxury of space; it’s just the zip-lock bag & Lowepro POUCH configuration is compact which enables me to be flexible, independent & self contained (with usually two cameras and say three lenses) with enough speedlight juice for location shoot application or venues that frequently may require me, or my assistant, to be separated from the main camera case which is secured to an immovable venue object or in trunk of my little sports car; both of which could be inconveniently 5 minutes away, so I can’t just throw used batteries into the camera bag, unlike if I was doing a location portrait. (Also for flying location shoots, already meets what I think is TSA requirements while travelling of batteries being in bags; being cautious that's what I have done on occasions when flying with carry-on photography gear to California for wedding & event shooting).

Everyone, just has to develop their own lean workflow. I found it works for me, so I can instinctively be able to retrieve & differentiate my batteries without a lot of down time.

J-DOGG – good luck on finding a solution unique for your needs

That makes sense. I used to put my batteries in sets of four in little zip lock baggies and just tear 'em open. They fit too snug to just drop out. But I decided I was wasting money on the baggies and causing undue trash, so I swapped out for the Plastic Case and Toss™ method. My logic is if I can't find them, they must be dead. :D

I just chuck the dead ones into a pocket in my camera bag as well. In my old wedding shooting days though I never used AA's just Metz dryfit packs and Quantums. All the power you need with no baggies needed.

I have 4 Canon 580EXII along with 4 Canon CP-E4 Battery Packs (total of 48 batteries) and when I go out on assignments I have each battery pack attached to each speedlite, and I have never needed extra batteries, and I've shot Weddings and Events that has lasted up to 12 hours and up to 2400 exposures...... So, I've never had or needed the use of extra batteries to keep up with.

It doesn't work for a ton of batteries, but I keep a few of these filled with rechargeables in my bag. I just take out good ones and replace with the dead ones with their Tits up (get it, because they are dead... haha)

They are super cheap and an easy solution opposed to ziplock bags.
(Not my photo, I use the older clear boxes)
