Apologies in advance to those who cannot visualise these type of shots, I suspect this is the last one I'll do you'll be relieved to hear. I finally found a co-operative fly ;) . The 3-D effect is fairly mild so should be easy to visualise. Just as an aside if you follow this link to the flickr pics and then click on wiggle in my comments- you can see the pic automatically wiggled. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lordv/63207964/ (external link)

Thanks DigitalMDX,
Quite good fun doing these but not many people seem to be able to visualise them.

That's a great effect!!!

At first I had a hard time converging the two frames, but once my eyes were "locked in", I could see the one 3D frame.

Also, It was really odd for me, because I wear reading glasses, and I had to take my glasses off to visualize it. Even though without my glasses both of the individual frames look blurry, the 3D visualization looks razor sharp.

That's weird that you get a sharp 3-D image without glasses. I use reading glasses when at the PC but have to keep them on to see a sharp 3-D image, but I just tried without glasses and could still visualise the 3-D image- but it was bit blurry. ;)

Great 3D picture Brian.
The fly head is less impressive than you hoverfly that I like more.

Better be careful with these. I just had a vision of you having to write out a million checks for $1.09. (Let's see if anyone gets that reference).

Thanks Jose
Just something I had to do ;)
The 3-D effect is less marked than the hoverfly pic but still there.

I don't Agree  . What do you mean , huh ???

This is a great 3d-work Brian. The wiggled in the other page is great as well.

Keep it coming man, when you find a strange bug, it's kind of you to let us see it AS YOU SEE IT IN NATURE, 3D :) .

Thanks Kallousa,
I do find the 3D format a bit restrictive because of the small image size, but I suspect if you wait till next year I'll do some focus stacked 3-D dragonflies/ Damselflies hopefully ;)
Have just about run out of bugs here now apart from a few hoverflies, house flies and spiders.

Found that wiggler available from one of the guys in the stereophotography group- it's some kind of applet I think .

Ah but they are not focus stacked ;)
Great 3-D shot Ahmad.

My understanding of the 3-D stereoshots is that if you put the pair in the way they were taken ie LH shot on the LHS and RH shot on the RHS you end up with a parallel pair which you are supposed to stare through to see the 3-D.
Reversing the shots ie LH shot on the RHS and RH shot on the LHS gives you a crosseye stereogram which you have to cross your eyes to see. Apparently some people can only do one or the other or neither. Sounds like you are the same as me- seem to be able to do both but I have a preference for the cross eye ones they seem to be easier on the eye and give a better 3-D image.

Someone on the stereo group I linked to above posted a shot with the parallel and cross eye sterograms side by side but both shots for each one (ie 4 shots in total). I found I could visualise the stereo pics in both pairs at the same time which was a bit worrying.;)
