I am looking for a wide angle lens for taking photos of my son playing guitar in concert venues. SOme of the places are very poorly lit, but I am able to get very close to stage. Just trying to get some decent shots to help him put together a portfolia for college interviews.

16-35 would be a great choice.

24 1.4L II if you want to go wide.. you can't really go wrong with that gorgeous lens which shines in low light and pretty darn fast AF... and also would recomment the 50 mm 1.4 OR maybe the 85 mm 1.8 for capturing detail like expression in his face or a close up to the guitar's strings ( your boy's fingers)...

If there are a lot of people and you can't get into different locations easily I suggest a zoom lens of some sort so you can frame the shot easier without moving around so much. The 24-70mm is what I use when I can get close and the 70-200mm is what I use when I am further away.
