Every once in a while I get a wild hair and want to swap out lenses. This year it's worse than usual. I have been using my 20-35L almost exclusively on a 30D and have pretty much well fallen in love with the lens. I also got a 55-250 IS that is surprisingly good. What this has meant is that my Sigma 50 and Canon 85 1.8 have been sitting around collecting dust. I also have a 17-35L that just sits around too. I was thinking about consolidating this year by selling the 17-35, 50 1.4 and 85 1.8 and buying a 24-70L. I also have a 5Dc which this focal length would be perfect for.

Maybe I am getting lazy in my old age but I don't want to be constantly swapping out lenses anymore. The 20-35 is great and I know I will get stellar results. Will the 24-70 deliver as well as the 20-35 is the big question? Is the 24-70 a back breaker of the lens that is just too big to carry around comfortably. Will the image quality come close to that of the 50 or 85 at f2.8? I'm just not sure on any of these things.

5D, 30D and some primes.

It's only because you have the wrong primes :D.

After I got the ones I really use and WANT to use, I stopped using zooms... :D.

Try a 24L II and a 50L, and see what you will use thereafter :D.

Kind regards, Wim ;)

Agreed, that 24L II is a very nice lens.

I love that you have a 20-35L and a 17-35L... two forgotten lenses that are both great...

I got the 20-35 and 17-35 the same week. My goal was to see which one I liked best then sell the other. Focal length and focus speed go to the newer lens and the optical quality is about even. I just use the 20-35 more and need to sell the other.

I have entertained the 35l once or twice bit I have an old nikkor-o 35mm f2 lens that covers that focal length. I also have a nikkor 24 f2.8 MF prime. But these two don't get used much since the 20-35 is so good. I guess I just want a medium telephoto magic lens. I hear good things about the 28-70 l too. As in its sharper than the 24-70.

I just bought a 24l on a whim. What have I done? I kept looking through the images and the only lenses that really caught my eye were the 24/35/50/85 l. None of the zooms were doing it for me. I guess I can use it for a while and see if I like it. If not, its not like its going to lose its value.

Congratulations! I think you will like the 24/1.4L. Since I moved to a FF camera I have thought about trading the 24L on a 35L. In my film days a 35mm lens was my "every day, stay on the camera, go too" lens so I'm tempted to do the trade, but... I don't use the 24 as much now as I did on a cropped sensor, but when I do use it I'm always impressed with it's quality and performance. Good luck with the new purchase.
