What brand and model of wireless remote are you using
I want to be able to set up the camera and tripod and get away from it
Could be used at Drag races or while photographing wildlife
I do not want to be restricted that I have to be infront of the camera
I've had a Hahnel Pro RF recommended to me
Need some help and advice
Thanks
Mach

When I had a rebel I used the Canon RC1 wireless remote. I just put mine on ebay if you're interested:

If you buy one on ebay just make sure it's not a fake.

These guys are reliable: POTN Shop (external link), and the remote takes an interchangeable cable so if/when you upgrade your camera, you don't need to replace the remote, just the cable. And it's RF, so unlike the IR Canon RC-series, they work in bright outdoor light and from any position relative to the camera.

check my gear bag in my sig.. i love my YN RF-603's and will get more once i get more YN flashes!!!!!!!!!
nice thing is each is a transmitter AND receiver.. no need to have 1 receiver and 4 transmitters or any other combo you need to think of... if you have 4 flashes and want to use wireless trigger... u need 1 for each flash (4) plus 1 for receive and 1 for your hand.. so 6... soooo nice...
go here and check my thread..

I do not think that it HAS to be in the hotshoe to operate. It is more than likely just a place to place it so it is not dangling by the cord.
The Yongnuo Rf 603's are the same way. If you need the hotshoe for a flash, just mount the transceiver someplace else. They work fine not being in the hotshoe.
If your needs include having it work outside, in bright light, then the IR based RC remotes are NOT what you need. If your needs include not having to be out in front of the camera so the remote can see the window on the camera, then the RC remotes are NOT what you need. If you do not what to activate the timer function of your camera so you have to wait at least 2 seconds for the shutter to trip, then the RC remotes are NOT what you need. :)

Quite correct. The shoe mount is a convenience, not an essential when in use. Beats leaving the remote hanging by the cable or velcroing it to the camera or tripod though.

This one works great to at least 300 feet even through structures!

I gave a few of these for Christmas last year as well as this year. They're all going strong. Just remember to remove the cr2 battery when not in use for longer life!
A must have IMHO!
