You are right. I am offended by it.... I don't know why I would want to drop money on Nikon glass, the old manual ones at all.

Not even if you found a good deal on a 300mm f/2, TooManyShots?

I would not say that it is made in heaven, but, it is nice. I would rather spend my money on a Canon lens. I, also, am jealous.

Is there some reason someone would rather have the Nikon 300mm f4 than the Canon 300mm f4 IS? Unless there's something uncommonly special abut the Nikon version, I'm afraid I don't understand this thread.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

A friend of mine who's a sports photographer who shoots with nikon owns this lens and let me borrow it whenever I need it since he never uses it after purchasing the 2.8 version.

Well, is not even a manual focus lens, but an AF one. Meaning that you only have manual focus on your Canon body. I don't know about you but I find it impossible to manual focus with today's AF lens. The focusing ring travel is too short. LiveView? I don't believe it is even possible to manual focus using LiveView shooting "handheld."

I use this setup on a tripod for specialty shots and for dslr video which requires me to use MF anyways. Plus you can get an adpater with af confirmation if necessary.
The MF on this lens wasn't too bad. The only time I find it difficult to focus is under extreme glare on the LCD from the sun.
