Focusing screen EG-D versus EG-S, Canon's description isn't useful

I want a focusing screen for my 5d2 helping with some manual focus. I normally prefer split screen but that isn't available for the 5d2. I would also like to have grid lines since I have a tendency to not hold the camera level in landscaping.

So I'm confused about these options:

So, does the EG-D (grid) offer any focusing advantage over standard? Or does it just have the grid and that's the only difference? That's really not clear from Canon's description. I guess that the EG-S offers a real advantage.

To make Canon's confusion complete, the manual for the TS-E lenses says " focusing screen recommended: laser matte with grid focusing". So what the heck is "laser matte"? It isn't mentioned in any of the above products.

My imagine composition sucks. I need a heavier lens.

The eg-s is the screen to assist with focusing
The eg-d is purely a grid pattern

This might be an alternative, but not sure what it will do to the metering, another approach is to use live-view with magnification when manually focusing

In addition to the link provided above...

You can get a screen that does both... and can add a split image rangefinder and/or microdiaprism, if you wish.

Be aware that adding a manual focus assist to the center of the focus screen, Spot Metering will be skewed and largely unusable. Other metering modes remain usable. The screen manufactuter might be able to tell you more. (Canon screens have Custom Function settings that compensate for the slight skew of metering modes, but these don't help with third party focus screens).

I just use EG-D (grid type) and Focus Confirmation with manual focus lenses. No big deal.
