Yes, that was my PM - I had no idea what tile or puc boards were... I see what they do but still don't know what they are unless it's really the hockey glass Google found for me.

I do a copy, flip vertical on a new layer and move opacity to a low percentage to get the same effect. The tile would make it easier though if the image proves difficult to line up on the vertically flipped layer.

See the post where I posted the BTS, the model is standing on it. It's basically a 4x8 sheet of what's used to make shower walls. White and reflective.

Skip that. Not powerful enough. Start with a speed light. Than two. Than three. A strobe. Another. You get the idea.

But I'd really skip continuous lighting. Read around the lighting section, you'll understand why. Basically, it's a waste of money.

I have to disagree, David. I think continuous lighting has a lot to be said for it,especially for someone is in new at studio lighting. Continuous lighting is cheaper and lets you see exactly how the lighting works on the subject.

It's entirely possible to light portraits with 2-4 home depot reflectors and hi-wattage bulbs. We did it for years.

The downside is that continuous lighting is hot and bright which makes the subject squint. This is not the problem with a speedlight or strobe. Other than that, I would argue that you can't do any better with one than you can the other.

Lol if i sold all of my gear I could buy one and have a 17-40L, 50 1.8 leftover. Not exactly the "kit" to take advantage of 61 point AF.

I got a PM from a user here. He wants to know what it that ''Tile board". I'll show it to everyone instead of him only, might help more than one.

Here's a full body shot on white seamless, without tile board:

And another full body shot, this time with the tile board:

It's all in the reflection. It ''grounds'' the model in the picture and gives a very clean look.

Have you ever seen magnesium burn? Pretty impressive!

Yes, we got sick of a chainsaw that kept stalling out on us while camping, so we emptied the gas on the fire and tossed the saw in. Let's just say we were warm for a bit sitting around the fire from 25ft. away while wearing sun glasses at midnight. :D Oh, that's about 8 meters for you David.

hi, n00b here, wanting to ask for some advice w/ a 60D (fw 1.1.0) & Yonguo YN565EX

I'm trying to just use the wireless flash feature on the 60D, managed to use it but for some reason, when I just choose the external/wireless flash, the internal flash goes off as well. Have done exactly as per manual on pg 140. all the other settings seem to trigger off the internal flash but I just want the external to go off!

Please help

Are younsure your just not seeing the preflash and thinking it's "going off"? It will still preflash when set to "not go off", that's how it communicates tonthe flashes!! :p

thanks babel_fish but yes the internal flash is going off not just in pre flash but when i fully press the shutter, have had the flash for a few weeks but flashed to fw 1.1.0 for my 60D just prior to getting the flash, could it be a fw issue?

This is exactly how it is supposed to work. The internal flash still has to fire as the trigger for the external flash, however it's power level is set to the minimal level and if you have your exposure set right it won't add any noticeable light to the picture, except for if you are shooting at a highly reflective surface. The manual clearly states this.

Anyone tempted on the new 5D Mark III? I was expecting it has articulated screen. I'm so spoiled with the sexyDs arti screen. It helps a lot.. I guessed i'll stick with crop sensors and invest in lens instead. Maybe when Canon upgrade the 60D having a Digic 5 processor would be nice. Better high ISO performance and hopefully a built-in "stereo" mic for video.

I just love the arti screen. +Plus the extra reach of the crop sensor.

When i looked into the FF samples, i can always say it's achievable using crop sensor when there's enough light.

thoughts?

5DmkIII: Too little too late.

At 500$ over the D800, it doesn't look worth it.
I'll just wait for high ISO samples to make a final decision.

Wait for actual head to head testing of the final production models. Everyone is freaking out about the specs of both cameras, but so far there have been no actual reviews of final production models, so you can't make a good judgement at all. Megapixels aren't everything, ironically that's the mantra Nikon kept for so long, and now this generation the tables are reversed.

If the market won't sustain the pricing Canon will drop it. IMHO all of their new stuff is VERY highly priced, from the lenses to the flash to the 5D3.

For portrait shooters maybe.

I'm eyeballing that FPS and claimed ISO performance...And the AF..ooooooo the AF :D

I'll wait for samples, then I'll probably wait and see if/when they update the 7D, as I can't see paying double it's price for FF.

Then I'll probably wait a year on top of that.

Then not buy anything. :D
