Hello all . I would like you're Opinion on this lens. Picked it up last night( well it came in the mail) and I noticed a noice , and a tight focus ring.
The image Q seems good, like from the one I have lend a few times from a friend of mine, and I really wanted this lens for some time now. So what do you think. Has it hit the floor ?

Prints? I sadly don't print enough. I have never printed over 8x12 :(

What about your model shoots, David? I have never printed large than 8x12, but then I shoot just for me, and as Hinson stated, since I bought my iPad, that's my main choice for showing people what. I shoot.

''Models'' do not care about prints. They aren't models, but random people on Facebook who wants nice pictures of them. Friends of friends of friends etc.. Nobody has ever asked about printing related question, some don't even have the files, they are okay with Facebook pictures only..

I agree with David; Models rarely want large images. They need 8x10s for their 'book' and/or digital images for online but that's about it.

I'm old school though; if something can't be printed at 16x20 or larger it's not much use to me and I find that most folks aren't buying anything smaller. Why buy one 8x10 to hang on a wall when you can put a digital frame with multiple images in the same space?

My clients (mostly car collectors and businesses) don't need anything smaller than 16x20 and wouldn't pay what I need to charge for a printed image.

That lens sounds horrible, I've never owned or used it though, could be normal but it sounds messed up. Maybe another will chime in as a few in here have that lens.

I love getting my prints done at 16 -10 it's a great size and they have a big wow factor. It's great looking at your shots on a monitor or iPad but I just don't think you can beat prints.

The one at the local PS was smooth. So I quess it has a flaw.

It may be just me but it seems that even a mediocre image, when printed at 24x30 or 30x40 still has a great 'Wow' factor. Not that I encourage anyone to print mediocre images but it does seem that way.

Yes, to me printing was a revelation
A few pictures that had an "OK" welcome looking at the computer, had many "WOW's and OOHH's" when printed
Not that they where any better, is just that the perception of the printed image was simply nicer and made the item "special"

^^haha your right there. Recently I've been getting some of my stuff printed on pearl paper and find it really makes black and whites look good. I'd recommend trying out pearl prints.

I think something's wrong with your copy.

I just duplicated your "tests" on my copy of that lens (which I absolutely love, btw - except for baseball games, that's the lens that I default to on what ever body I'm using) - and I wouldn't be happy were I you.

My focus ring is well dampened, but it's dead silent.
And when I shake it - again, silent.

RMA/return it would be my advice.
