Vincent... I was joking! I have re-arranged his bone structure, you bother about the skin smoothing? Just poking some fun!

I just recently upgraded from an XSi to 60D, and am incredibly happy with my choice.

I also thought that the XSi was a great camera, and I learned a lot while using it, but I wanted something with a bit more "umph," so to speak. a 7D or 5Dii were both out of question due to budget, so I went with the 60D.

I've been shooting with it for about a month now, and here are my impressions thus far;
the 60D handles higher ISO better. much better, in fact. I didn't trust going over 800 on the XSI, whereas I don't cringe when using 1600, or even 3200 from time to time.

The dynamic range is better, but not don't expect the same performance as a FF, like a 5D. it's definitely a step up, though. since I'm not the best source on dynamic range specs, i'll leave it at that.

the biggest difference I've enjoyed is the controls, and the feel of the camera in your hands. The XSi just didn't feel quite right in my big hands, even with the battery grip.
The 60D, on the other hand, feels nice and comfortable. to the point that i've switched from a sling strap to a hand strap. the top LCD, and articulating rear LCD are also nice.

also, here are some photos I took during my 5 mile walkabout earlier today. to say it was a gorgeous day would be an understatement.

I guess the question then is whether I should save money for a 5D3 or if I should get a 60D in the interim.

From the Metropolitan Museum of Art. JPEG straight off the camera:

Did not shoot RAW to play with... I also need to bring the exposure about a stop down... I shot it as a test, talking with a photographer friend

I'm not worried about noise performance -- the XSi simply doesn't have any higher sensitivities than 1600. I couldn't shoot 3200 if I wanted. ;)

If Dynic Range is your Alpha and the 5D3 is out of your budget, then I will assume the 1D4 and its full frame bretheren are out of budget as well. With that said, the only Canon game left in town then is the 5D2, 7D, 60D, 50D in that order.

With that short list in mind, from a pure cost/performance basis, the 5D2 seems to be the winner. Unless of course feature set is important, but that is a personal thing, which is why I chose the 60D originally. Albeit the moment I was able to afford it, I added the 5D2.

The 60D is an amazing camera for the money IMO.

Good Luck,

How much difference do you notice between the 60D and the 5D2? As some examples...

1) Ease of processing RAW files
2) Do you find yourself wishing you had one body over the other?
3) Would you feel comfortable using either body in most situations, or do you find yourself reaching for one body?
4) Even if the 5D2 offers better image quality qualitatively, can you actually notice a difference at web resolutions or printed?

It could make sense to go with the 5D line, but it does involve some additional upgrades... computer, for instance, and new lenses, at least one new bag. (5Dc is also a possibility, but I'd need lens upgrades there, too.) If the 60D can keep up with the 5D2 at low ISO, dynamic range especially, it could be a good holdover until I decide whether I want to make the jump to FF.

You need a Sierra Denali 2500. It's the only way to haul a camera in style. And hey, think of all the jobs you'll be supporting.

J/K David...Get the Scooby. VW's are a nightmare to work on :D

Ah, I'm not working on it, keeping it stock. Had my 05 Civic SE since two years, never had a problem with it. Only thing I did was oil changes, brake pads and the timing belt.

Legacy or Impreza?

The 2009 Legacy is a good looking car...

This is what happens when...

  • Record temps of 80F (27C)
  • 5% humidity
  • Wind 50 to 60 mph (80 to 97 kph)
Went from 4 acres to over 100 acres in 90 minutes.

Can't sleep with the window open tonight.

But with a VW, you WILL be working on it.

Or the dealership will :D

In various circumstances, I owned BMW 328i, BMW 740iL, Toyota MR2, Mercedes C200K and a Subaru Forester 2.0.

I only LOVED the MR2 and the Forester and the latter probably more than the former.
