Immaculens,

I can spend up to that $1350 spot... and as you mentioned, I can pick up the body only and the 18-55 and 55-250 for that $350.... so it's a wash. I didn't realize those two lenses had better quality than either the 18-135 or the 18-200 lenses.

I've been reading these forums for over a year now but I was hoping I would be able to afford the best glass. I have some things in the works but it looks like they'll take a bit longer than I'd hoped and I want to get started with a DSLR. Based on my hopes, I have researched the L lenses and know next to nothing about the less expensive Canon offerings or those from 3rd party companies.

Todmac,

Did you have another suggestion for the body and a better lens for around $1350?

Just joined the 60D club by picking up the body, 18-55 and the 55-250 for $1240. It's my first DSLR. I am on a budget too, and based my lens decision on reviews at : http://www.photozone.de/canon-eos (external link)

Some good advice being given to Phoenixkh on which combo to get. One thing to think about concerning the Canon Loyalty Program. When it came time for the upgrade to the 60D, I called them because a friend had an older broken point and shoot he was going to give me for the trade in. The rep I finally talked to, told me that the loyalty trade worked in that you got the type of camera you traded in. IE; "point and shoot for point and shoot" or "dslr for dslr" and that they could not accept the point and shoot for the 60D. Just something to think about or maybe the rep I spoke to that day, just had some misinformation. Call them and find out for sure.

I am on my work computer right now and I hate darned company internet filters 99% of the pictures everyone post show up with the little square x box.. dang it!!When I read all of the compliments on a particular picture and all I get is that darned little red x thingy, it makes me

Anyways, Thought I would contribute a picture, here is a cool shot of the Northern Lights that I took yesterday morning.

The rep was definitely not correct on this one. I just called them yesterday and told them that I had a broken (very old) PowerShot SD400 and that I heard about this great CLP program they have and I would like to get a DSLR. The rep was very nice and asked me which one I want and I wanted 60D body only since I already have lenses. He didn't even ask me for a serial number from my broken camera, just told me the price (20% off regular refurbished price) plus tax and free shipping. I paid and the whole process took 5 minutes tops. So my order was:

Merchandise: $799.99
Promotional Savings: $160.00
Shipping: FREE
Tax: $40.00
Order Total: $679.99

Got my tracking number today and should be delivered on wednesday! Happy to join the 60D club soon :)

That darned rep..:mad::mad::mad: That just ticks me off, when I hear that I was given wrong information from someone that actually worked in that loyalty program department. Oh well, good info and fodder for next time I want to upgrade. Thanks

I just got a 60D on the premise that I would trade in a P&S. I say "premise", because I have yet to send it in (had forgotten about sending it in, will send it in tomorrow). Here's a very informative thread on CLP:

Lol. This one finally bit the dust, a while back. I replaced it with a pink one, when I gave the Blackberry it belonged to away.

I had a Green drive and it wasn't that great for sequential read/write tasks so I relegated it to a card dump/backup drive, similar to what Str0 uses it for. Works great and is easy on the electro bill too. I also use them for off site VPN tunnel/NAT machines for my web clients and they don't know any better and are happy too :p
