I am currently debating whether to add the 24-105mm L lens to my collection...anyone here own the lens and can give me some advice on how this lens works with the 60D...or perhaps can recommend another lens.

My biggest issue is that I need a lens that will give better quality in low light than the lenses I currently have, plus I need a fast lens... hope this makes sense :)

I have the 24-105L and I love it. Great for a walk-around lens, being reasonably wide and long. It also has enough range to be a single-lens solution, no need to pack a couple lenses with me just to cover a normal day. The f/4 when combined with the 60D's useable ISO6400 can result in some great photos you otherwise wouldn't be able to get in a dim situation, HOWEVER, don't think the f/4 is going to be "fast" and save you in dark rooms/clubs/whatever.

A lot of people complain that the 24mm isn't wide enough on a crop body like the 60D, but I find it meets my needs, and I do somewhere around 90% of my shooting with it. Of course, I do complement it with a 10-22mm for really wide needs and take that along when I think I'll need it.

Overall, it's really my most frequently used lens, and though I occasionally wish for the extra range of something like an 18-135mm, I wouldn't trade it in for ANYTHING.

Ok, please tell me someone else has done this: I just turned my camera on in a dark room and the LCD doesn't turn on. Pull out the battery, put it on the charger, and it flashes twice for 50% charge. Put it back in, still nothing, continue to panic. Turn the light on in the room, LCD is turned facing the body :)

Just returned from a trip to the mid Atlantic states ( NJ, DE, MD and Northern VA) to shoot some lighthouses and a couple wild horses.

You have to press the 'play' or 'menu' or 'info' or 'live view' buttons, for the LCD to turn on...

I have it set to always display all the settings info when it turns on, but you can't see that when the screen is turned inwards ;)

And a sweet Titleist I found today:

Jillian is actually an ex-student of mine from almost 9 years ago. Turned 21 today and we did some birthday portraits yesterday. It was my first portrait session in a long while. I forgot to switch back to raw before the shoot :o and I couldn't recover some highlights (darn white pants) but they're happy with them. C&C welcome.

Went for a ride with my old man today to get him out of my ma's hair while she held a baby shower for my little brother's wife. Went to Idaho for some lottery tickets and adult beverages they don't have here in the bubble.

I would recommend a bridge camera(superzoom). I can recommend the Panasonic FZ series. It has leica lens. It also has manual mode. I started learning Manual Model with my Panasonic FZ18 then i bought the T2i before i upgraded to my sexyD.

Oh I hear ya - there are some very good 'quality' offerings in superzooms now. I myself got the SX10 before I got my XSi (then 50D). dpreview.com just posted their review of the FZ150 which faired very well indeed - they knocked 2 mp off from the previous (which my friend has) and the image quality improved and as you say - its also good glass...
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonicdmcfz150/ (external link)

Aside from the 'Panasonic' - I did not refer directly to 'Superzooms' because the G1 X and s100 are top of their class and I would not neccesarily put the SX40 in the same league as them and I donlt think Canon does either, the SX40 for example is not aimed at the 'Advanced Enthusiast or Pro' photographer as are the G series or s90/95/100... but of course the SX10-40 is an 'all in one' except it does not offer Raw and its the typical small sensor (well all are except the G1 X)...

Cheers ~

I don't think the 24-105mm will be fast enough for your low light needs. You'll want something with f/2.8 or faster, such as the Tamron 17-50, Sigma 17-50 OS HSM, or the Canon 17-55 IS USM. If you can go with primes, you can get the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 and the Canon 85mm f/1.8 to complement your 50mm f/1.8 (you can also upgrade your 50mm f/1.8 to a Canon or Sigma f/1.4).
