Hi guys!

A few days ago the rubber on the front of my 550d stopped sticking to the plastic. The glue isn't "working" anymore.

A picture will illustrate the problem better:

Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

I already tried an universal glue but it didn't work.

Get some good contact adhesive on it and hold it down for a while. Evostik springs to mind, much better than an all purpose or superglue as you can spread it all over before placing it.

This has happened before to people. If you do a few searches on here, you should be able to find what they did. I know someone got theirs to stick back on again, but I can't remember specifically what they used.

A good adhesive for a rubber product would be to get some black or clear silicone caulking compound. Apply a thin coat and hold in place for 24 hours with some duct tape or masking tape. In general adhesives that dry to a hard glue line, like the "speedy glues", will uptimately fail as they will crack over time. You need something that retains its flexibility.

Dont use any kind of glue for plastic or rubber
You should search for a strong double side sticker only ( very thin )
This will make your work clean

THis is the remedy I used on my T2i, just a very thin double sided tape, had the look and feel of electrical tape (PVC).

Cleaned the surfaces throughly with rubbing alcohol , cut the tape into thin strips so I could lay it out with any ridges, pressed the grip back down and viola.

....the best camera is the one you have on you at the time.

I was wondering how could this happen. I then inspected my T2i and it is doing the same thing, I just never noticed. My grip is undone on the opposite side. Thanks for the info.

when you hold the rubber of the body of the cam
you must hold the body of the big lens only
dont press on the rubber with the big weight for the big lens

No there is more to this than just usage.

The problem started being reported in various photography forums about a year ago with the latest releases. Just try to find in the forums a 30D, 20D,10D, 400XTi, 350XT, 300D, etc. that had this problem. If the problem existed before you would have seen some forum traffic on the issue.

Something changed at Canon either the glue, the material used for the grip, the tolerances in the size of the rubber grip, or a combination of factors, but it is more than just how people are using their cameras....

John

Should and will are two different things. ;-)a They should have fixed the failing shutter button issues that they were having with the xxD series, but up until the 50D you can still find people requesting help with non responsive shutter buttons. (Haven't seen any with the 60D yet... so they may have actually corrrected something. But time will tell)

The grips have started to peel on my 60D. Still deciding whether or not to go through Canon warranty or to just glue/stick it myself.
