Between having quality time with the 7D to learn its nuances and the variations that seem to exist out there between different 7D bodies, I simply wouldn't agree. The results could very well be different with a different body and a desire to learn how to use it to its fullest. It is the best all-around APS-C crop body TO DATE, bar none. Get a good copy or send yours into Canon for calibration, then learn and shoot.

Agreed. It is probably (along with the Nikon D7000) the best APS-C sized camera out there. But it will always have that tiny sensor. I think it is capable of some great images. But if you're after that large-sensor quality, I think you'll be inevitably disappointed with the results from the 7D. Maybe I did get a bad copy - I suppose that is possible. I perhaps could have become used to the sheer amount of post work that was required to get images where I wanted them to be, but I didn't want to.

I'm just trying to illustrate my experience with this particular camera to try and help someone with their decision. I'm not bashing. Just to be clear.

Having photoshop CS3, I learned the best post processing steps, color channel by color channel, and that was the end of spending alot of time on photos. I would just dump all JPGs into folder, and batch run my action against all files. But again, that goes into my "learn the nuances", not just camera usage and settings, but also the best steps afterwards for post processing. Take a week to learn all of it, set up your actions, and from that point forward, there should be no extra time to work on 7D images (or any digital set of images from any given body).

I have done the same with the 1D4 too.

I don't disagree with you. What I really want to say is that whether the 7D is the problem or the user, it doesn't matter because in the user's mind he will always be thinking about his last experience with the camera. Best solution for him is to buy another model to try and see if he is satisfy.

Good point, I missed that, and it appears Higg has no patience, less than one hour from posing the question to hitting that "Buy It Now" button. :D

LOL, you will love it, don't worry! I have tried to sell mine twice now, but each time, I end up selling lesser bodies or glass instead. The camera stays....

I had both the 5Dc and 1D4 with me when my church requested my services to do free family portraits for Christmas. I never even dug out the 5Dc. It wouldn't have mattered if I had the 5D2, it would have stayed in the bag as well.

Good times, and I guess they are all happy with the results, even though I believe I ended up with about a 60% keeper rate of what I would have been pleased with. I learned I am not very good at full manual mode. :(

I have to agree with the above comments. I sold my 7D and now have a 1DIV. Will be keeping this body for a long time.

Just keep in mind that the MKIV may struggle in low light in servo mode. Teamspeed can tell you all about it.

The lenses have a slight impact on this. I have put the 24-70L on the 1D4 in AI Servo, and it is a bit better, but yes, it still struggles a bit. The 1D3 is still king at this point, at least in AI Servo.

This hits the nail on the head. You are never going to get that full frame look from ANY crop sensor camera, it's just not capable of it. I bought both a 7D and D7000 to test out and see which I would keep because I may be one of the strange ones, but I mix and match because I want what I like and it doesn't happen to always be the same brand. I sold the Canon and I still have the d7000. D7000 wiped the floor with the Canon IMO and to be fair, the 7D is a bit longer in the tooth than the Nikon but at high ISO especially, it wasn't even close, Nikon was the winner. The 7d might have acquired focus a bit faster but it's my belief the Nikon held it better once it got it, so depends on what you're using it for. Sports is 75% of what I do, so while acquiring focus is important, it doesn't matter if it can't hold it.

On paper, the 1DX will be an improvement over the 1D4 in that regard.

The 1Ds III can lock in AI servo. ;) Something you haven't tried yet,eh?
