I know there have been thousands of questions about mounting but I think I'm asking something a little different....

I recently had a 30x45 metallic print framed using the dry mount technique on Matt backing. I HATE IT! The reason being is that the dry mount wether heat or cold pressed gives the photo what is called the "orange peel effect". As you all know, meatallic paper is very smooth and has reflective properties. Well using the dry mount with the adhesive spray gives the photo surface a textured look and takes away the smoothness and some of the reflective properties of the paper.I have been doing so research and cannot find a substrate mounting that will not affect or change the look or smoothness of the photo.

I know about gator board, foam board, and the likes but i'm not happy with those either. However, styrene seems interesting but haven't seen anything printed on this medium. Does anyone here have any experience with this medium? If so, please shcool me on its quality. Or if someone knows of any other ALTERNATIVE mounting substrates that would fit the bill.

Thx in advance!

I will check reply thru out the day as I am currently at work.

I have all my large prints done on double weight mat board. Lots of metallic prints and never seen the effect you describe. I also have prints that size done commercially. Never had any issues with MPIX or MPIX Pro....if there is a problem....they correct it on their dime, not mine.

Thx woolburr for the reply. Maybe it's just the way they are mounting the photo. I have had some mounted on gator board and it is a lot better. But I guess I'm just looking at it from the wrong angel. Looks like its has more to do with processing than substrate material.
