Whilst filming some birds in my garden with the above mentioned lenses I noticed how audible the IS motor noise was and how sensitive the on board mike is.

Q (1) Any suggestions regarding an external mike would be very helpful.

Q (2) Will an external mike disable the on board mike when it is being used?

I find IS very useful when filming hand held or even on a tripod in the wind so I have to find a way of recouding the natural sounds whilst not recordind the whirring of the IS motors.

Thank you.

Chris

Get yourself a shotgun mic and I believe that the internal mic in most cases should be disabled when using an external mic.
