Hi all,

My first post on the forum. If it is in the wrong place please place it in the right place.

I have an old Sirius 325 CS Thyristor Computer Flash Gun that is powered by 4 AA batteries. Can I use it with a Canon EOS 7D or 350D on the hot shoe or would it be better to use it with a wireless trigger system?

At the moment I can't afford to buy a new Flash Gun so this is my only option if I wish to have a flash gun in use. I want to be able to do the water drops shots like Gavin Hoey (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwExpFDUC9Y (external link)) in this clip, so this flash gun would be my only source for flash.

Any ideas on the use of this flash gun if it can or can't be used with my camera bodies?

Thanks all.

Never heard of the flash, nor does a quick Google search find it, so hard to answer your questions…
For waterdrops, you'd need a short flash duration, so a low flash output.
Either lowest manual power level (if available) or the setting that "expects the widest aperture".

One thing to be careful about is the trigger voltage: http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html (external link)

Thanks Rene,

I have emailed the owner of that site to see if he has ever heard of the flash gun.

It seems a waste to have the gun and not use it. Maybe using an off camera wireless flash set up might be something I can use it for.
