Anyone using BlackRapid RS-Sport 2 with griped 5d mkII + 70-200 f4 is + 580ex II ?
I am concerned about the force that will act on the grip, which could break the screw that connects the camera and grip or carabiner on the RS-Sport 2.
Any info what is the max load on rs sport 2 ?

Tnx

I have same set up but with 60D gripped and 70-200 2.8 so its heavier. Youre supposed to attach the carabiner to the tripod ring on the lens other wise i think its way to much weight for the grip

Ok you shoukd consider buying one because all the weight will be on the grip and i dont think itll take the weight and the weight distribution woud be really uneven.

huh it's cost 210 dollars on Amazon, RS-Sport 2 only 70. I don't have trust in cheap ebay versions. Friend of mine, broke one few years ago.

Mate - he's saying that the unbalanced weight of that setup will put far too much stress on the tripod mount on the grip. If you have a collar on the lens, you'll balance the weight and it will be safer.

That said, I'd consider an inexpensive strap as a safety strap - I'm not sure if Op/Tech is available to you in Croatia, but here is how I have my BR-7 set up:

(ignore my Arca mount hardware)

Notice I attached the safety strap on the "buckle" area of the strap, not the carbiner. In the unlikely event that there is a failure, it will be the carbiner or the lock for the carbiner, so the strap is safe from either failure.

You could probably attach the other end of the safety strap to the standard strap mount of your camera on either side. There is a full write-up and links to the B&H store for the particular strap on my blog - the Op/Tech part number is 1301062 - B&H part number is OPSCUNL.

No, i don't have strap yet, but after some research found out that shipping from BHphoto is 40 dollars. I must find other way to get strap.

Thank you for safety advice. If I get the strap will surely go with your option.

You can get Chinese made tripod mounts from Amazon (external link) for $12. I used to have one of these before I upgraded to the 2.8 and it worked great with my BR strap. Recently, I shot a concert with the 7D and the 70-200 2.8II on the BR (no flash) and I screwed into the grip because I just didn't think to go into the tripod collar. Anyways, I didn't have any issues with the grip failing, and it's a cheap Meinke grip. These days, I make sure that I plug into the tripod collar when I use the 70-200 or the 100-400.

+1 to the tripod ring...
I use a RS-5, 70-200 II and 5D grip, and with that combo, I attach to the lens mount. If you don't, there will be stress at the lens mount (on the body) and possibly at the grip's mounting points...

You should be fine.
I use 7D with 70-200 2.8 AND 2x converter attached w/o any issues. I don't use grip though, so can't comment on how much weight it can take.
Never liked how the setup balances attached to tripod ring, it just sticks out too much, attached to the camera it runs parallel to the body, when using tripod ring mount it's perpendicular, hitting everyone and everything around you.

I use mine with an RS4 and have had no issues. I do tend to support the camera with my right hand when I am walking though because it is quite large dangling there with the 580 attached.
