Just ordered a Speedlite, and was wondering what batteries people are using.

Also, approximately how many times can it fire before needing to change the batteries.

I haven't owned a flash for over 25 years:lol:!!!! Should be interesting and fun!!!

Thanks for any input!

Enloops seem to work well. Other notable batteries I am aware of are Powerex & Imedion.

Eneloops are what I use, a lot of people use/say that powerex are good for quick flash recycling

I started with eneloops, but now I buy cheaper ones. But I don't try to wring out every last recharge from them. If I can get 4 recharges out of them, they are now cheaper than disposable ones. If I had to buy them that fast I would still be ahead of the game. Obviously they last longer than that, but at that point I'm breaking even. When they don't last long enuf they get tossed and I get new ones. While the eneloops are without a doubt better, I'm spending a lot less and getting satisfactory results.

Instead of how many flash pops you can get out of a set of batteries before needing to change the set, it's more significant to know which batteries would give you the fastest recycle time while giving you the most flash pops before changing out the batteries. If you don't mind charging your batteries shortly before the shoot, my number one recommendation is Powerex 2700. If you're a casual flash user and don't want to charge your batteries right before the shoot, then the low self-discharging eneloops would do.

I only use eneloops. Very good batteries that hold their charge for a very long time. It's nice to be able to pull your flash out of the bag after not using it for a month or so and be able to fire away.

Actually, Duracell (with white top) is almost identical to eneloop so you're right on. The advantage of Duracell over eneloop is that it's more widely accessible.

Sanyo eneloops. I also have the older Sony 2500mAH cycle energy AA batteries and they also rock the 430 exiI while shooting but don't have a very nice shelf life.

Powerex 2700 mAh. Eneloops are the refuge of the penniless! :)

Even more important - a VERY good charger, like the Maha Powerex MH-C9000. Then mark any cells that are slow to recharge, and dispose of them if they do not come right.
