Hi all.. My goal is to have 2 off camera flashes with a 550d

I already have a 430 ex2.. If I were to buy a 580 and use a hot shoe cord connecting my camera to the 580, would my 430 act as a slave and be able to use wireless ettl in conjunction to the 580?

I am not really interested in wireless ettl due to te cost and don't think I have he patience or the know-how to use wireless manual flash settings

Thanks a lot!

yes - hot shoe cord must be ettl - normal hot shoe cords won't work.

The two phrases highlighted above contradict each other but nevertheless....

If by "wireless ETTL", you mean having the output of the slave flash controlled by the master flash, then the answer is yes assuming you are using an E-TTL compatible off-shoe cord like the Canon OC-E3.

If you use a non-E-TTL compatible cord, you will still be able to trigger the remote flash but the output of the slave will need to be set manually.
