For iOS users, Snapseed is currently free! It's an impressive photo editor and it was the app store app of the year.

I got one too. One thing I found about Snapseed. It changes your file name :-(

It's worth the price, I don't mind if it changes the file name. My main editor is Lightroom on my desktop, I tried it on my laptop but it's a Walmart special and is slow. My hubby took over the laptop anyway. So this is nice for quick edits on the go, with more features than photoshop express.

It's a great app - well worth the $4.99 price tag. I think this was the third time it was offered for free in the last few months. It will come around again for those who don't want to pay.

I got it free. Thanks. Not too bad but iPad is not my editor of choice!

I would have to agree. It's a fun app, but it does not replace the more powerful desktop editors. But you must admit it can be an alternative temporary editor while on the road. Especially if hi-res is not important. Of course you must have a camera connector kit in able perform file transfer from cam to iPad directly. I also wish Snapseed does watermarking.

You are transferring a DSLR picture to your iPad and using Snapseed as the editor? Why would you do that? This app is for pictures taken with your ipad or iphone camera.

Well, it's for someone who is "mobile"...

I'm not an iPhone/iPad user, but a few years ago I picked up an Epson "PhotofineUltra" for doing mobile/events and such. It has a CF card slot and would handle/display Raw shots, so I could load a batch of shots into it and it has a 4" screen so was great for reviewing a batch of shots in my "spare time" while I could keep on shooting with my second card...

But what the Epson lacks is any editing capability at all. For that, I have had to pack a laptop loaded with Lightroom/Photoshop for when I need even a basic edit, which is OK for when you have the space and time, but with these types of advances, well, I can imagine that being able to load shots onto an iPad-type of device and do basic quick cropping/processing would be a nice capability...

As I have mentioned "while on the road". Although you can choose to use the camera in your iPhone/iPad. It doesn't mean you cannot use your DSLR raw files.

This is taken from iTunes product description:
SUPPORTS:
• 6.25 MP images for iPad, iPhone 3GS, and iPod Touch (3rd & 4th Gen), 16 MP images for iPad 2 and iPhone 4, 4S (larger images will be automatically down sampled)
• JPEG and TIFF photos
RAW photos (requires iPad or iPad2) transferred using the Camera Connector Kit (if files show up as a small thumbnail, go to Settings > Location Services and turn this setting to On for Snapseed. This is required to allow Snapseed to use the iOS RAW processing)
• Language support: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified)

BTW there are other DSLR picture (your word) editor out there. But I would be off-topic if I mention it. Therefore your understanding that you are restricted to the images taken by the device (iPhone/iPad) are incorrect.

At the risk of being redundant. This is a fun app but in no way a replacement for the desk bound photo editors.

Canajun, good points. But in your last sentence I believe you meant to say something like "but is in no way a replacement..."
