I have the ST-E2 and just got the miniTT1 and FlexTT5 from Pocketwizard as a gift. Is the ST-E2 now redundant? I have a 580EXII, 480EXII, and 480EX. Got the ST-E2 back when I only had the one 480EX. Thought about selling it when I got the 580EXII since it can master but kept it. Is it now time to sell it to buy another flexTT5 and AC3?

If I had a second flash, I would (in a heartbeat) replace the ST-E2 with another TT5 and an AC3. The only downside is losing the focus assist of the ST-E2, but for me it would be worth it.

Image editing and C&C always OK

Focus assist on the ST-E2? Didn't even know it had such a feature? How does It work?

The ST-E2 will fire a red grid pattern to help the camera focus (in single shot AF mode only)

I have both ST-E2 and pocketwizard flexes
They both have their pros and cons.

The ste2 doesn't have much range, but it is easy to stuff in a pocket when you dont think you need OCF
It also will allow you to easily change ratios on remote flashes (even when using the flexes)
It looks pretty strange piggybacked on top of the mini though

The pocketwizards seem to be more reliable, especially with odd flash placements (behind walls etc)
They are bulkier and take longer to setup than the canon IR system.
