I recently noticed a vertical line of light at the left side of photos taken with my less than 3 months old 7D:( I have an example below. I used a blank wall because it's obviously harder to see in busier pics.

I was hoping it was my CF card but the problem appears across cards and lenses so it's got to be the camera. Needless to say, it's going back to Canon, but I wanted to post this anyway. I'm curious as to whether anyone else has had a similar issue with a 7D or any other Canon dSLR?
I'm thinking it must be the sensor. Any other thoughts?

Thanks and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
~Michele

Looks like a shutter problem based on what I've seen here when others have had similar problems. What shutter speed was this taken with? Does the effect vary with shutter speed?

I don't see how a shutter problem would cause a vertical line unless there was missing piece off the edge of one of the shutter blades, and that would leave a much more distinct edge. Horizontal lines, yes I could see a sticking shutter causing something like that, but I'd think vertical is the result of a sensor problem in the read gates for those rows of photosites.

I have to agree with bsmotril. I've had a shutter problem in the past with my 30D and there is definitely a difference between that and what I'm experiencing here. The shutter failure problem created more wavy, arc-like lines as opposed to this straight vertical line.
At any rate, I almost have it all packed up to ship to Canon. I'll let you know what they find. Thanks for your posts.

Happy New Year-
Michele

My guess is a sensor problem.
