I saw a Youtube video on this site some time ago but its escaping me today.

Id like to use this to its full potential.
Thanks

Custom setting for what? You can customize the tablet to use different settings depending on the application.

Custom settings for what you use it for.
On my pen for web browsing, Ive assigned the lower button to "scroll", and top button for "Back" until I can get used to using 2 hands surfing the web.

I rarely use my tablet for browsing and rarely touch my mouse while in Photoshop. There are some videos on he Wacom site from some of their webinars. It shows how some of the presenters have their keys assigned. I'm traveling right now so can't remember what all mine are or I would share. It's a process in getting key assignments that work for you. It is very much personal preference and what I may use may not work for you. I probably changed mine a few dozen times in the first couple of months. The one thing I like is that you can have different hot key setting that are driven by the application you are in.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Heh! True Confessions time:):

I picked up my Intuos 3 medium-size (6x9) Graphics Tablet a few years ago and was happily looking forward to bulding it into my CS2 workflow!

But then, my little post-processing world underwent a change when CS3 and Lightroom came out with significant improvements in the Camera Raw capabilities. And, as things stabilized with, I believe, Lightroom 1.2 (Camera Raw 4.2) I ended up with a pretty much Lightroom Only workflow, with only occasional ventures into Photoshop.

And so, since in those days Lightroom/Camera Raw had no local adjustment brushes, just the basic clone/spot removal/healing tools, I rarely even tried to use the tablet in Photoshop!

But, and this is something I'll toss out here: the tablet I got has buttons on the upper left side that "do things", which is fine unless you happen to be a "lefty", as I am!

So, whenever I would try to use the tablet, as I'd do something (with my left hand) I would keep lightly pressing one of the buttons and crazy things would happen, and I'd give up!

Now, I believe that there are probably adjustments that can be made for this, I don't know. Like I said, I've been pretty much Lightroom Only the past few years, and even with the local adjustment brushes I'm still in the habit of just using the mouse (with my right hand).

But, I'm bringing this up here, because first maybe someone has encountered and solved this problem, and second as a heads-up to "lefties": I believe that some tablets are designed with buttons on the right side and you can disable the ones on the left side, and I'd go for that design, rather than the one I got with buttons only on the left side!

So, end of the ramble, but if a lefty got one like I got and found a fix for it, let us know!

Speaking of custom settings, what I can't figure out on my Intuos 3 is how to set the Brush Flow up/down settings to one of the sliders. Or even to two of the pad buttons or the pen's two buttons. Anybody know how to do that?

In PS I have my bottom pen button to right click, and the upper button as "space" (grab, for looking around a zoomed in picture)

I only use the buttons on the right side of my tablet (and haven't setup the left ones)
One is set for "expose" a function on the Mac that spreads all the open windows out to make switching between apps or files easy.
One is set to type **ONLINE OUT** (for quickly adding to caption info, and saves copy/pasting or typing it out each time)

And I can't remember what the last 2 buttons do - its been a while since I have used my tablet (it lives in my locker at work for days when I'm stuck behind a computer rather than out taking pictures)

I have my Intuos 3 tablet configured differently according to the application I'm using. In Photoshop I have the rocker switch on the pen set to right-click (lower) and pop-up menu (upper)

So when I click the upper switch in Photoshop I get this pop-up menu with the commands I use most frequently. Much better than trying to memorize all the Photoshop shortcuts. I also have Lightroom similarly configured.

You arent using "flick" for Copy/Paste?

I find flick is good cor that, but I still have problems using it to scroll up and down.

I actually wish there was 1 more button on the pen. But that may be like asking for 1 more hand.

Interesting idea, yet, for a variety of reasons, I disagree. For one, it's less flexible.
(For instance: Do you want a Q&D new layer, do you want to name it, or do you also want to set blend mode and fill it with a "neutral" color).
I'd also guess it's slower. (Yes, I know the shorcuts for these)

The pop-up menu isn't designed to totally replace keyboard shortcuts and that isn't what I'm suggesting. However sometimes I'm quite a distance back from the monitor with the tablet in my lap and it helps to have my most frequently used commands (which I'm always changing) available without having to reach to the keyboard.

But obviously it doesn't eliminate the need to use shortcuts; otherwise the list would be too long and unmanageable. And yes, I know even some of the most obscure shortcuts.

Using Photoshop without being in reach of the keyboard?

That would drive me bonkers within a minute

Matter of taste I suppose.

Intuos4 can be used with buttons on the left or right, depending on if you're wrong handed or not ;)

There are sample settings on Wacom's web site for a number of professional photographers. The settings can be downloaded and installed or modified.

Hope this helps,
