I've seen people in two threads point to "wireless flash" as an advantage of the 60d over the 7d. what can it do that the 7d cannot? I was under the impression that both had the same capabilities when it comes to that...

sorry for the new thread, but I did ask in one of the threads and didn't get an answer.

I think that the only difference is that the 7D can do one more group than the 60D. Apart from that I don't think there's any difference.

thank you. I recently had my 60d (and lenses, flash, etc.) stolen and have been trying to decide whether to go with another 60d or make the upgrade to the 7d.

I know what the 7d has that the 60d does not...my main question/concern is whether the 7d lacks anything that the 60d had, since the 60d is the latest in the canon lineup.

Lacking...

AFIK the only bell or whistle that the 60D has which is lacking in the 7D is the articulating LCD. This is a non-factor for me since I very seldom use the live view.

However, one of the main advantages of the 7D over the 60D is the three User Selected Modes (the 60D has only one). I love these and can set my camera up for some advanced parameters (to take advantage of the many facets of the 7D such as various styles of focus) and then select these parameters as a group with one twist of the Mode Dial.

I see very few reviews that mention this difference but, it is major for my way of shooting.

BTW: the 7D has eliminated the DUMMY MODES such as landscape, portrait and action, etc. However, a person can easily reproduce these modes, if desired, by using the User Selected Modes...

A + for the 7D is the Micro Adjust feature, which I don't believe the 60D has.

Yup that and the swivel screen, which I can do without, but manual audio control I miss...

this and the articulating screen are the only 2 things I can find. I don't do much video, so the sound recording level isn't a major factor (though I'm sure it would be nice at live shows...) and I rarely shoot with live view, so the screen isn't a big deal to me. it was a nice to have and it came in handy from time to time, but wasn't a major factor for me.

thanks again, everybody. and happy new year.

User selectable upper limit for automatic ISO selection is also a feature that's on more recent cameras than the 7D. The 60D has it.

the mode selection dial has a lock on the 60D, I believe you can now have this feature installed on all the older bodies a t a price.

Anyone that's telling you that the 60D has an advantage in the wireless flash triggering over the 7D doesn't know what they're talking about. They use the same system, except the 60D cannot control as many flash groups as the 7D; otherwise, they work the same.

forgot about that feature. I don't go auto iso very often at all, but yes, that is a good feature.

I have never used automatic ISO selection and doubt if I ever would...

After using a total of five DSLR cameras, I have never mistakenly switched the mode dial to a different setting. I have many times (until I ditched the camera) erroneously hit the mofe buttopn on the back of my 350D switching the camera from single-shot to timer mode. My thumb just natuarally rested in the area of the mode button when I was shooting.
