I just got my new camera, a Canon T3i for Christmas from the wife. On a job the other day I stopped by the sea wall in Galveston TX and took some pics. I used my 18-55mm kit lens for these wide open, and Photomatix for the post processing.

Afraid you let these cook way too long. Doesn't do much for either image. Welcome to the forum and don't be disheartened by negative comments....people really do want to help you improve here. Just curious....what were you hoping Photomatix was going to do for these shots?

Dave,

Welcome to POTN. I must admit that there's a bit too much processing here, but don't get discouraged. Keep shooting and posting here so we can help you improve!

Don't worry, I asked for it. ;) It's funny, when I show non-photographers these, they say "wow, that is cool". But I can understand why experienced photographers feel it is way over the top. On the second pic, I was going for that very look. Let me reprocess it a few different ways with PSP X4 and Photomatix and see what I can do that may be a little more tasteful. Then I will post them up. Thanks for the honest feedback.

Dave

PSPX4 natural is much better. You might try Photomatix fusion or compression too.
