Out of the Box Round III

Here is the latest attempt at generating something outside the box of normal photography. It's the way I am wired folks the thought of becoming a Sears portrait photographer frightens me enormously. I might have to wear a tie. This is a 4 image stack with a single curves layer.

If you think it sucks don't expect me to embrace your POV like we're long lost pals and you are doing me a favor. Tell me WHY you think it sucks.

I like the colours and textures. The only thing that bothers me is that I can quite figure out what the shape on the right is meant to be. Its probably meant to be abstract though.

The theme is "Power". Spend some time with it. There are two similar objects of different magnification so they do not appear to be similar but they are.

It certainly is colorful. That brings some interest to the table. I like the fact that you aren't afraid to experiment and share the results. If there is a weak link....I don't know that the utility pole is all that compelling as a subject and yet I am still looking at it and trying to figure it out. Guess it works!

I would have to agree concerning the subject and there are other choices. I used a pair of bottles back lit by natural light, a textured diagonal motion image, and 2 power pole images. I don't have a lot of portrait imagery as my library is rather thin.

The two power poles were the easy part. The transformer was a giveaway....I never would have guessed the bottles.

Splash art with a little double exposure, mixed with a polaroid film look...I get it and I dig the experimentation

As a thoughtful composition I don't think it works. It's too busy and with too many competing elements. You've got poles, wires, transformers, mixed with different textures - mottled, striated, overlays; verticals, horizontals & diagonals. And then you added two color overlays. It's like you just threw in a bunch of stuff to see what happens. Seeing the overlaid images on the black pole and cross members also takes away from the effect.
As an experiment I'm sure you had fun doing it; but I don't think is makes a compelling artsy image.

I think it looks pretty cool for what it is and what you done with it.

I like it, very cool! To me it's not a photograph, it's art created with photography.

Busy is thematic and shouldn't be discounted entirely. Busy can create visual dissonance. I did just throw a bunch of stuff together to see what happens but there was a selection process and the act of mixing the images for maximum effect.

I do have a question. What constitutes a "compelling artsy" image?

Fair question. To be compelling I think it needs to either tell a story or have some clear subject. To be "artsy" I mean if you can sell copies for more than a trivial sum, or if you can get it displayed at an art exhibition or in a museum. But rather than ask me, why not print it big, frame it, and take it to an exhibition and ask local artists for their opinions?

A teacher had a great quote ... if you can't make it good make it big ... thanks for the commentary.
