also, what do you think about the WB? I had it more white a first but put it a little more on the amber side because I thought it looked more realistic to how the rink actually looked, should I stick with that or go back to bringing it totally white?

I would back to white, very few people like "realistic" yellow pictures.

Also, what f-stop did you shoot at? Some of these pictures don't look tack sharp but excellent action shots.

Canon 1D MKIV, 1D MKIII, Canon 70-200 f2.8, Canon 400 f2.8, Canon 16-35mm f2.8.

Color correct the set.

WB is not the same as what you think you remember about the scene.

I love the goalie action.

I think shooting Ice Hockey is pretty hard.

I'm still sorting it out. One thing I currently try is boosting saturation, just a touch. It seems that the poor light just bleeds color from the scene.

Hope you don't mind, I tweaked it a bit in Lightroom.

Boosted exposure, recovery, vibrance, blacks, and sharpening. Tweaked white balance a tad. This was done on my laptop, so color may not be exact.

My thoughts exactly. The shots are fine but they're just not very sharp. This is a perfect example of why I sold my 7D, got tired of shots like this.

Unlikely to be the cause.

It is more likely to be insufficient shutter speed and a bit of camera shake.

I currently have a 1D Mark III, Mark IIN and a D7000. I already had the other bodies, I bought the D7000 to replace the 7D.

i checked and it does need some MA. these were at 1/640. i had some others that were at 1/800 with the same results.

I played around with it some more, did a lot of sharpening and got this: what do you guys think. I sharpened it to 100 then exported and reimported it to iPhoto 2 times, so sharpened to 100 3 times and this is how it looks now.

I'm not saying you don't need MA. Just pointing out a more likely root cause of a soft shot across the frame.
