Hello all! Happy 2012 :)

So, I use to have a Eizo Flexscan CRT 17" back in 1999-2001 and all I remember was that it was very good and the colours looked right, anyway, last week, after a long wait I bought myself a Eizo ColorEdge CG243W, I was very surprised after I turned it on and calibrated the thing, red and green extremely vivid, and overall the colours are very vivid, in photoshop and lightroom colours look a bit better but the rest of apps and windows 7 look weird, over saturated.

I'm calibrating with colournavigator (hardware calibration) so I don't see why windows colour management should interferer, but maybe I'm missing something. (I tried calibrating and using it with my macbook pro but is the same, so is not OS related I guess)

Are these monitors meant to be this vivid and saturated? or should I get a replacement?

The strange thing is that the factory calibration settings are not over saturated like custom settings or when I calibrate myself :/

Thanks
Hugo

The Eizo that you have purchased is a Wide Gamut monitor which means that colours will show incorrectly in any application that is not properly colour managed.

PS and LR are both colour managed as are Safari and Firefox browsers.

The monitor does have a sRGB preset - selecting this should make non-colour managed applications look better.

you're right, selecting sRGB mode makes windows or mac os look "normal"!

during calibration I found a way to lower the saturation settings but then how can I trust the colours on the screen!? I don't see the point in doing that! I would be losing the whole colour accuracy I guess

With your explanation now I can find a lot more things on google about the subject

thanks a million for the reply :)

Calibration is only realy of value when you are working in colour managed applications - I have the same issue with my Dell u2410 and just live with the fact that the colours are off a bit in other apps - after a few days you will probably not notice as much.

Use colormanaged applications or use sRGB emulation mode; Eizo Color Navigator has an option for that.

Rene,

the only sRGB emulation I can find is straight on the monitor modes, but since I am aware now of this wide gamut / over saturated business and that it is just down to non colour managed apps I am not worried anymore!

overall Mac OS X 10.7 and Windows 7 behave exactly the same way, only difference is that google chrome is colour managed on mac but it is not on windows, but icons etc etc behave the same, apple and microsoft need to work a bit harder.

I now changed my browsers so they are managed and life is good again :)

Thanks for all the help guys :):):)

Hi ,

I have also just purchased an EizoCG243W monitor which is running through my 27"intel based iMac through a DVI adaptor. I am loving the monitor so far and use it mainly for printing work but there seems to be a slight pinkish/reddish cast to the screen which I can't seem to get rid of. I have calibrated with the Color Navigator software and used the ColorMunki several times but at the settings I want to use by default which are 6500K white point, 0.2 Black point and 2.2 Gamma for all channels (the actual result is very close to the target so this would not be the issue) I keep seeing this cast on my screen. I have been looking past it and getting very high quality prints without the cast but it defeats the purpose of having such a high end monitor, I want to SEE whats coming out at the end not guess what it will look like without the color cast. Any ideas what may be causing this? I have heard elsewhere that these monitors sometimes require "burning in" and after a week or so the cast disappears but this seems unlikely to me. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Craig

Hi Craig,

I notice every time i turn the eizo on it has a blueish or greenish cast but after a minute it disappears or could be me getting used to the colours really quick! I must pay more attention when I get back to my workstation!
