I recently received a pelican 1514 with the 1519 lid organizer. I'm slightly concerned about removing the foam in the lid and replacing it with the 1519. For those who have a lid organizer do you find you lose any protection?

My 5Dii w/grip seems tall when inserted in the case. I would hate to have the top smashed around in transit.

In this post, https://photography-on-the.net …highlight=1519+protection the guy cuts the lid foam down and installs the lid organizer over top. Anyone else do something like this? I was thinking if I knew my case would be headed for some rough treatment I could just toss in some extra padding (blue camping foam?).

Am I just over thinking this?

I had the same concern when i just bought my 5d2. Now we are 3 years later, no scratches.

Maybe just be aware of the thing you put in the long vertical pocket at the right side (that comes over the camera)

No problems whatsoever. I've got the organizer lid in 3 of the 4 pelicans that I use, and I've never had an issue.

Good to hear, maybe I am over thinking the whole thing.

On a side note I found the 1519 a pain to install in the 1514. Having a small Phillips head screwdriver and pre-drilling the holes helped.
