Does anyone know if there is any copyright issues with this?

1.I photography an art collection of a private individual.

2.They give me permission to use the photos in my portfolio and mailings and website.

3.Do I run into any problems with a copyright issue from the different artists who crafted or painted the originals in the collection of the private individual if I use them for advertising or display?

Thanks. Rob.

The original artists probably still retain the copyright. You would not be able to use them for advertising or display without the permission of the copyright owner.

That is a rather complex question, which I certainly can't answer. I believe it may depend on how prominent the artwork is as part of the image. If it appears as one small part of an overall scene you are less likely to have problems than if the photo is just of the image itself - you are basically just reproducing someone else's image. Ultimately I think you would need a lawyer to answer properly.

It doesn't take a lawyer, it just takes a better idea of what he's photographing.

"photography [of] an art collection of a private individual" sounded to me like he's making photographic duplicates specifically of each work. If it's merely incidental, such as photographing a room in which the art happens to be, that would be a different issue, but that would be "photography of a room" not "photography of an art collection," to my mind.

This. If it's a photograph of an individual in front of their art collection, you're fine. If it's a photograph of a piece of art itself, you have an issue.

It depends how prominent the art collection is in your series/photograph.
