Gotta beat myself up over what to do.

So, It's time to replace that 24-70L I sold.

I was looking at getting another 24-70L or a 24-105 along with a Tokina 12-24 (all would be used in this situation).

Other then that I was looking at the EF-S 17-55 (I was trying to avoid a EFS for future reasons). But I'd still need to find something on the 55+ end.

I'm trying to debate if IS is worth it for me, or is having 2.8. Without a tripod, I'm not very stable. So that's +1 for the 24-105...

The 17-55 retains its value so well there is no reason to worry about going FF later. Buy the lens you want/need now and then when you do go FF then sell it, perhaps at a profit. I love my 24-105 as a walkaround lens, but for a crop camera its not that exciting (not that wide, and the long end doesnt add that much). How about the 17-55 and 70-200F4 IS combo?

It's hard for anyone to help with this if you don't tell us what you shoot. Either or both of those features may be extremely important or completely irrelevant depending on what and how you shoot...

The thing to remember about IS is that it doesn't help if the SUBJECT of the photo is moving. A larger aperture does.

So we need to know what your subject matter and typical shooting conditions are.

You seem fine with f4 options, so would the 15-85 work for you?

Yeah; I'd just go with the 24-105 or 15-85 route. As far as skipping EF-S, it's sort of unfair to yourself if you limit the tools you're willing to use just because you might move to another body in the future. Buy for what you have and need now, and worry about the future when it turns into the present

I just shoot whatever, mostly everything is just for me. I've not had many issues where I went "Damn, I wish I had a wider lens" but do suffer from "Damn, I wish this lens had more reach". So 24mm normally wide enough for what I like to do, but adding a Tokina 12-24 into the mix does make things fun (I do like the way 12mm looks).

I know the build quality of the Tokina, and I know it's a good lens.

Most of the time, my subjects are stable and it's I who is swaying around.

I've yet to look at the 15-85 till just now. I've really been spoiled over the years by L quality, which sucks.

I know what I'll prob end up doing when the time comes. I really did like the 24-70L. But I should rent a 24-105 and one of the EF-S lenses just so I can make a decision after using the others.

It sounds like the 24-105L would suit you pretty well then. The 15-85 would probably be a good fit as well if you can live without the extra reach.

I hear it all so often, if you are really going to upgrade to ff, why not just sell the body you have now? With the money you have put aside for the lens, it should be enough!

Are you thinking of getting 2 lenses?
1 lens being the 17-55 and the other maybe being the 70-200mm 2.8 IS USM?

or get the 24-105mm & upgrade to FF.
