As for handling the weight his biggest lens is a 70-200 F4 which is much lighter than the 2.8 so can't be certain on this. They make a much nicer carbon, model CX730B105 for around $200 that I have actually seen at a local camera store and I know it would better suit your needs. -- Eric --
