UPDATE- I looked at the actions I use to process photos and add the watermark and some of the settings got changed. I reprocessed the originals and re-uploaded them. These copies should be a better. I also added two more photos.

Went down to RFK Stadium on Dec 28th for the Military Bowl. Air Force and Toledo played this year and originally I wasn't too excited about the teams that were playing but it ended up being a pretty good game.

With less than a two minutes to play Air Force was down a touchdown. At about the 50 second mark Air Forced scored a touchdown which brought the score to 42-41 with Toledo leading. Air Force tried to go for a two point and was stopped on about the 1 yard line.

Shot these with a D3 w/ 300 f2.8 and D300 w/ 80-200 f2.8. Let me know what you think.

They seem pretty noise. Did you try and de-noise them?

I don't use LR for sports. I did all the processing in PS.

No I never use any de-noise software. I tried a whole bunch a couple years ago but never found any that I really liked enough to use.

If that's at iso 1600 #5 must be a huge crop.

You don't use noise reduction, but do you use sharpening?

I think you would find that these images would benefit greatly from using Lightroom, especially the noise reduction feature as it is great. Converse to your workflow, I use Lightroom for 99% of what I need to do to my sports photos and rarely need to export to PS. For any sport where I am shooting in iffy light (rinks, dark gyms, night games) I always shoot RAW and tweak as needed for noise and such.

I would think at 1600 ISO the D3 would handle noise better than what is shown? and that you could go to 3200 and bump up shutter speed a bit?

1600 iso on a D3 should look MUCH better than this. These were either pushed in PP or you need a new hosting site.

You may not like noise removal software, but these really need it. If you have PS CS5 the noise reduction built into ACR is the same as Lightroom, and would help a lot.

Thanks for all the comments. I took a look at the originals and the actions I have set up to process the photos and add watermarks. Somehow they got changed to over process them for the web. The new copies I uploaded should be better. Sorry about that.

Wish I could have been at this game! I go to school at Toledo--could have been shooting on the sidelines, too, but I ended up deciding against going.

There's some great shots in here. Love the colors! Our boys run fast, too, so you did a great job catching them in action.
