I just bought a Canon D10 and I was thinking about taking a speed light with me on my vacation to use some optically slaved off camera flash, but messing around with it in my room, I can't seem to get them to sync correctly. The speed light fires, but the timing isn't right. Any suggestions?

See if you have the option to disable the pre-flash

Nah, the only option like that I found was red eye, and I turned that off. No help.

I'm not familiar with the D10 (10D?).
If it has a flash exposure lock (*) button, use it to separate the pre-flash from the main flash. Give the slave a few seconds to recycle after the pre-flash, then take your shot.

D10 is the waterproof, shock resistant point and shoot. There's no * button. I guess I'm stuck with my reflector :(

Canon suggests their HF-DC1 slave flash for the D10 so the various Yongnuo flashes with S1 and S2 modes will probably work also. I've used the YN460-II and 565EX in optical slave mode S2 with Canon G9 and G12 cameras, see http://lightdescription.blogspot.com …o-speedlite-yn460-ii.html (external link) .

I tried the canon 430ex and the YN560 on S1. I didn't think of trying S2. Dang it, I'm at the airport already :( Oh well, next time, I guess. Thanks for the help!
